What planet are these loonies living on?

The Montgomery County of 2024. What planet are you living on?

these nutjobs are outliers - most moco residents are not die hard ultra progressives

The members of the Montgomery County Council were elected by the voters of Montgomery County. That's how democracy works.

The candidates are usually a bunch of hacks. Obviously the area skews blue, which is great, but there are never moderate options. It's all super progressive people with no understanding of economic or criminal policy. I've never voted for a republican in my life but I think, at least in local elections, I need to start doing that. It's getting beyond ridiculous Moco is bleeding out but we would rather focus making sure people's feelings don't get hurt.

Have you sat in a council meeting? It's embarrassing.

Then here is a three-step plan for you:

1. Find a candidate you support (or run yourself).
2. Persuade eligible voters to vote for your candidate (or you).
3. Get more votes than the other candidates.

I am too busy subsidizing criminals, sadly.

I remember all the way back to 2022 when Esther Wells was running for school board as just a concerned mom and accountant.

Can you provide some credible link or data to the fact (as you say) that "many people drive without a license due to limited resources"?

If they don't have a license, how would they drive to the DMV to get one?

Please provide a credible link or data to the fact that people who don't have money don't do things that require having money!

Everything is oppression/racism/sexism. It can't possibly be due to peoples' poor choices to break the law. No one is ever personally responsible, some -ism is always to blame. Mink is absolutely nutso.

I agree with her 100%

-a cis white guy

???

That amuses you?

Where I live low income drivers can get help to pay for a license. Poor people have to drive to go to work too.

But I found this :

American Job Centers (AJCs), operated under the U.S. Department of Labor, provide grants, loans, and funds to help pay for a driver's license as well as funds for car registrations and other work related costs.

I find it strange that of all things that need taking care of THIS is what half baldy decides is important.
Do they get a cut from the DMV ?

You all elect the weirdest people. What crimes won't be explained away by poverty in MoCo?

Mink should start by not speeding to/from her home. I'm her neighbor.

Those that cannot afford a license cannot afford auto insurance. Everyone's rates go up from uninsured motorist accidents.

People that cannot afford a license and cannot afford auto insurance should be taking the bus or biking to work.

Nobody said that it's ok to drive without a license. Merely that higher fines will not deter people from doing so.

How about jail time, would that defer people?

Unlikely. As posters on DCUM keep repeating, in many parts of Montgomery County, it's hard to get around without a car. Compare the urgency of "if I get caught, I might go to jail" to "if I don't get to work, I will lose my job".

Put them in jail instead of a fine then. They could sit in jail for a day.

If that’s the case, they shouldn’t live in a place where they need a car to get around.

If people can’t afford a license, how are they going to afford to obtain and maintain a car and pay for gas?

They really need to put all of the meetings up on YouTube or not make these cumbersome to find.
