China will not invade Taiwan in 2024

China can now afford to wait and see... They are likely hoping for Trump to win since he won't defend Taiwan. https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trumps-taiwan-remarks-spark-fury-concern-1862602

This might be my favorite AI post of all time. lol

They don't need to swiftly invade, they can use attrition to grind them down. Much easier to blockade them for months/years while pummeling the island with long range missiles and artillery outside of the range of most of Taiwan's weapons.

I don't think we will see a D-Day style invasion given how risky it would be. Attrition is working much better for Russia against Ukraine than when they went in guns blazing. China learned from this and will probably adopt a similar strategy. The big question is would the US try to use its navy to break a Chinese blockade. China will try to deter the US from intervening with area denial weapons.

But hopefully China doesn't try either strategy.

Nah, that became a sure thing when Trump left office.
yeah right remind me who was blocking aid to Ukraine?

Attacks only happen under Presidents not named Trump. Enemies stay in their cages under Trump. Trump doesn’t let our soldiers die. He will nuke an enemy before one of ours dies. They know this. If he engages… they will lose quickly and he warns them of this and they don’t doubt him.

Excellent troll! I've said before that this website is on a list of sites where early drafts of propaganda are posted to test the waters and develop a narrative. The above is of course late stage boomer facebook level of posting, farcical in nature.

I believe the correct spelling is “naw,” but I digress.

OMG. The spelling /grammar police on this???? LOL. Naw and nah are two different “words.”

I am not sure how Taiwan can look at the GOP with respect to Ukraine and feel any confidence in the US support for their island.

Why would China invade Taiwan when they are getting most of what they want anyway? They are changing norms. They are expanding their soft power. They are a formidable competitor/adversary but their danger comes not from a military invasion but rather a complete undermining (or changing) of the international rules of the road. Btw, they are a threat to national security for sure. Just not by launching stuff at Taiwan.

There's no Chinese who worry to the extent Americans do about this. As a Chinese American I always laugh at this topic. Chinese civilization spans 5000+ yrs. You think they're idiots??

Chinas got enough to think about these days. Why in the world would they go pick a fight with their own country folk who live on a strongly defended island and have the support of a major player like US in addition to most of the free world? I mean would any of you want to make a new prob just for kicks for yourself? Makes no sense and completely illogical which the Chinese are definitely not.

This is the talk of Americans - always has and always will. It's like some sort of weird drama/fantasy topic to chit chat about because there's nothing else to gossip on.

There's a negative 10000% chance of China invading Taiwan to convert them into communists or whatever in at least the next few years. Maybe things change up down the line but politically, financially, militarily, logically, China would lose in every possible way if they considered it.

Again the Chinese have been around. Their government consist of the most educated and brightest not like here where we have idiots in government. They may be communist but they are not fools. Add that a lot of Chinese have family in Taiwan and vice versa like my family on both sides. We are all Chinese. In Russias case it's about Putin who is mad. Russia rules differently than China. Putin runs the show there where in China, there is no mad man dictator.

Ramps are a much simpler, FAR more reliable way to get jet aircraft into the air. No moving parts. No steam system, no recycle time, no magnetic system, nothing to fail.

The US Navy uses catapult systems because we have a larger array of aircraft, including legacy propeller driven aircraft (C2 and E2) that require cat systems because the first classes of aircraft carriers the US built to accommodate jets incorporated cat systems. So aircraft designers designed accordingly, since the system was already in place. It’s a feedback loop.

But if your navy doesn’t HAVE legacy aircraft, or your defense industry doesn’t have aircraft design bureaus that plan on using existing cat systems, then you don’t NEED to have aircraft or ships that use cats.

China fields two very capable 4th generation fighters that fly easily from ramped carriers. They are absolutely on-par with the US F-18.

And just fyi - our own F-18 - it can easily take off from a ramp, too. It doesn’t need a cat to fly.

Agree with this.

None of my Chinese friends, colleagues, or acquaintances are agitating for a mainland invasion of Taiwan.

Not sensing any popular support for this at all. China is a very big country. This does not figure very prominently in people's concerns.

Most recognize it would be a stupid thing to do. It would be very costly in lives lost, strategically, economically, politically.

Meanwhile, Evergrande, a major property developer, just collapsed. That is a much bigger deal for mainland China than whatever with Taiwan.

The CCP aren't idiots.

No one is invading Taiwan anytime soon.
