The $50k total cost for OOS is the harder nut.

Huh? All UC, all Cal State, Caltech, USD, and others. That’s many.

Not test blind. Go and do your research before posting. I am a californian. And forget the community colleges, there is a residency requirement. And most of the Cal States also make it onerous for a californian to attend BECAUSE THEY ARE FOR CALIFORNIANS. As are the UC schools (now less than 10% OOS because the residents revolted against the UC regents)

DP. Can you explain what you mean when you say that UCs, CSUs, Caltech, and USD are not test blind? My understanding is that they are, in fact, test blind for SAT/ACT.

Note: if you were a California resident, tuition is like 1k.

Would it not be weird to do community college from out of state? Is it not mostly local kids?

It’s a bizarre suggestion, ignore.

Can’t an 18 year old move and establish residency to attend a CA junior college and transfer from there to a state university?

Please go google it and not bother us. It's all there. California schools (all three levels) are for Californians. OOS have to work their way in

Are you a complete idiot? All UC and Cal State schools are test blind. Caltech is also test blind.

No I actually know what I'm talking about. do you know anything about OOS admissions to the PUBLICs (Caltech is private)

You can try all the standards—LMU, Occidental, USD, Santa Clara, Pepperdine—but they may not offer merit. Only you can decide if it’s worth a shot.

For merit, you can try Cal Lutheran. Not the best location and not the best programs, but they do offer merit.

Yeah…my kid applied to the four of the UC schools…they are test blind. You can’t submit your SAT/ACT scores. They won’t look at them if you somehow tried to submit them. Didn’t apply to any Cal State but same policy.

Do you not understand what tests we are referring?

You’re very defensive. I googled it and there’s no prohibition on enrollment for nonresident students. Please take your meds and wait 30 minutes before your next “I’m a Californian” rant.

Santa Barbara city college, Pasadena city college, and Santa Monica city colleges would all be nice. Look into what specific options each one has. They typically have relationships with the UC near them, easy to transfer into if you meet the requirements at the Cc. I think it would be a nice experience if they have another way of meeting people, like through friends in the area.

DP. Are you trying to say that UCs and CSUs use test scores for admission of out of state students only?

Who knows…but they don’t use them for any applicants considering my kid applied OOS.

OMG super expensive. my niece went there. Not the best academics. Over $90K a year now. not worth it. https://www.chapman.edu/students/tuition-and-aid/financial-aid/undergraduate/cost-of-attendance.aspx

Chapman is kind of like a west coast Elon (my kid goes to Elon and has friends at Chapman so I have a means of comparison).

Elon is so much nicer, IMO. I hate the location of Chapman

Agree, but the vibe is very similar. Elon is fratty, though, so there is a difference there.
