Many people who grew up in the area refer to it as 236, especially in the Annandale area before it gets to Fairfax and is called Main Street. |
DC is fine but MD is spotty. Some major roads are getting covered. |
Northern VA is very bad right now. |
+100 literally every one who grew up here calls it rt 236. Pp must be a newbie. |
People are driving like total idiots no lights on, no turn signals and not increasing stopping distancing and speeding. People are driving off the roads. I can't get over how many dumb drivers there are here. |
I grew up here and don't. So there. |
I'm in Fairfax not Annandale. We do not call Main St. 236! |
I like the old days, where you turn on headlights when it's raining or snowing, this "auto" option is making 1/3 of the cars on the road going dark while snowing out!
not cool |
The roads are definitely freezing fast now that the sun has set. I was out at around 12:30 for a doctor's appointment and the roads were fine. They were wet, not slushy or icy.
I just went out at 4 to grab a prescription that CVS finally got in stock and the roads are terrible. They are very icy now. I saw cars sliding around because they were trying to go too fast. SLOW DOWN! That's it, just slow down and you'll be ok. |
"the" 236? ![]() ![]() ![]() |
236 is what most people refer to the area between Alexandria and Fairfax. So Duke Street when in Alexandria, 236 from the tip of Alexandria/Annandale to Fairfax then Main Street once in Fairfax. There will be always be a few who say they don’t but that’s what the bulk of long time area residents use as the breakdown. |
Just drove on the beltway, it’s not bad but side roads are getting more slippery. |
Just got back in from driving up Beach in Rock Creek - getting slippery - had to put 4 wheel on to go smoothly up hill at one point. Car in ditch too. Not too bad - just take it easy. |
I saw two cars in the ditch in upper MoCo. Slid around a bit on side roads |
Grew up in Fairfax, went to Frost and WTW (on 236) and we always called it 236 or Little River Turnpike. Main Street was just that little stretch that went through "Old Town" Fairfax and down about to the funeral home. But I'm also old enough to remember the Erols and Waxie Maxie and Bob's Big Boy at Fair City Mall so maybe its a generational thing. We also drove on Shirley Highway and Tyson's Corner was in the middle of farmland. |
