It all has to do with gut health and the micro biome. If your gut flora is healthy, diverse, and plentiful you'll have no problem with a vegan diet. If your gut health is compromised due to antibiotic use or other factors then you'll have trouble digesting fiber. The majority of the US population has compromised gut health though and can't properly digest plant based foods, this is why so many people are seeing improvements in their health when switching to a carnivore diet.

What I eat isn't the problem, it's the desire to eat - much like an alcoholic desires to drink and a smoker desires a cigarette.

Your body is literally telling you that you aren't feeding it the right foods. I had the same problem as you. I went carnivore. Finally all of my cravings disappeared and my binge eating completely stopped. I literally have no desire to eat scrappy food any more.

Not a vegan, but I believe your body adjusts the more you eat it. And there is also a herb that some latin foods include to reduce gas.

Beans are supposed to be one of the best, nutritious and environmentally friendly foods available.

Exactly. Although being vegan you are probably less likely to gain weight (when I went vegan I lost weight)! But going from regular vegetarian to meat eater also made me lose weight.

If you lose weight through a plant based diet, you'll gain it all right back again once you go off it. You're on it for life.

(I think that's how these arguments go.)

You can be vegetarian tho or mostly plant based.

Gross. This is why I didn't last very long in PR, writing junk like this. And why I don't trust ANY recommendations I get from magazines/blogs etc.

Fat college students who live on cheese pizza and French fries love to remind the world they’re vegetarians.

The fact that many on this thread think plant based=fake meat provides a sense of why this country has the dietary problems it does.

I could never be a vegetarian or vegan but I certainly can make meat and fish a smaller portion of my diet.

I can never be a vegan. I have to avoid soy as much as possible and can only tolerate other legumes and some nuts in small quantities.

This is what is holding me back from switching to plant based. Nuts, beans, tofu… it all gives me terrible gas.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asafoetida is one i know. There may be others.

And I love the people saying "my body wasn't meant to eat plants" as they eat... cheese. Fermented baby cow food. That they were designed for, I guess? That's good comedy!
