I would ask why they need that when that reveals confidential health info (like the type of medical professional your child saw). That's ridiculous.

My teen has weekly therapy appointments at lunch. We have been required to provide a doctors note when he returns. I find it an inconvenience but I’m told it’s the policy.

If you’re talking about Blair that woman is over the top. She called to verify a note we sent to excuse my son 15 minutes early for an appointment. Fifteen minutes before the end of school! She’s like the attendance Gestapo.

+1. Our front office regularly messes them up (like the first day of being sick is excused, but the second isn't), and at this point I don't bother to fix it. It's a day or two a year and doesn't matter.

I’m taking my +1 back because I think I’m wrong on this. I googled and many schools have this policy. i’m pasting this one although this is the same policy that several middle schools and high schools also listed. None of my kids schools have required a note for late arrival for doctor appointment but I usually proactively bring one. I’m sure I have forgotten in the past.

I would write a note saying you kept your kid home sick for that period of time and don't mention the appointment. Dumb to require a note for appointments when you can just call them sick.

Yes, it's awkward now that they know the actual reason. But let them challenge it if they feel like it's worth their time.

Most schools are requiring notes from the office because there are plenty of parents who lie. It was amazing to me the other day when I had 4 kids miss my 1st period test, all with variations of doctor/dentist/ortho appt/appt run late. 🙄 yeah, right.

Yes, MCPS does give schools and principals the ability to tighten or loosen attendance policies as needed.
