Will you call 911 or the police if some kids steals candy?

That’s hilarious! I could see that in a sitcom.

Do you know this person? What’s she like?

I have never understood why people just leave a bowl of candy sitting outside. Other than I guess they are looking for videos they can post of either people who took a lot or some kid who was very gracious and only took one. Both can go viral.

Trick or treat is about handing out candy and ringing doorbells. If you aren't home, you turn the lights off.

I've left out a disposable bowl of candy on a decorated table, when I was out ToT with my own child-I did it knowing and understanding that it could all get taken by one person. I did put up a sign that said please take two.

I actually never had it all taken. But it it was, oh well Tot is over at my house for that year. No, not calling the police over that!

Never thought about how all the ring doorbells could change Halloween. Imagine the embarrassment if those were your kids.

Perhaps Instead of a 'Take. 1 'sign, you should put a" You are 'on camera' sign

We also took calls on when trick or treating starts……

1 - That is insane to consider calling the police over a bowl of candy.
2- Maybe people should think twice (or even multiple times) about posting Ring videos of minors online. Really not okay.

Like, ToTing was supposed to start at 5pm and little kids were ringing doorbells at 4:45?

The internet has made it possible to realize that some people are just very, very stupid.

I used to have a sign saying “please take one” and at the end of the night, the bowl was still full of candy. So now I don’t put any sign and at the end of the night there’s still a little bit of candy left.

Back in the 80s, our town had “official” ToT hours. They also sometimes shifted the ToT night so it wasn’t a school night. Hilarious in hindsight.

Public shaming used to be pretty prohibitive, so i guess we’ll see

What else can be done?
There no law against this

If you don’t want kids to have candy you could not buy any, or buy it and keep your door locked and eat it all, or buy it and answer the door and say “no candy for you!”

Putting it in an unsupervised bowl outside doesn’t even make the top ten list of “strategies to keep kids from taking candy”.

I wouldn't call the police. However, I don't mind that person posting the videos. The parents/caregivers are encouraging the kids to take all the candy. They aren't teaching how to be decent people, so maybe public shaming helps. I don't know when the pendulum swing so far that people can't ever face consequences if they are under 18. That leads to a lot of adults who can't distinguish right from wrong. (see video)
