Why on EARTH would anyone want to be a Real Housewives cast member??

They want the attention.

Is there any data on how many of them get divorced while on the show/soon after? A mix of situations like Camille Grammer where her husband wanted her to do it to distract her from his cheating and others where they know their marriage is crumbling and somehow think the spotlight will solve their problems.

No normal person would go on one of these shows today.

I think many are egomaniacs:

Heather's party with HD everywhere, and her birthday party that she posted about online where people walked away with gifts (some being expensive items and others being socks with her face all over them - who on earth would honestly gift that to a non family member)? Who would be on television dancing to your house sale that you just said you didn't want to tell people about because it would look like bragging? Who would have an operating champagne button in her closet?

Shannon having a large picture of herself in her closet.

Luann telling a cab driver to call her Countess and refusing to sleep in a certain room at Dorinda's home.

Kelly telling Bethenny that Kelly was "up here."

Jill saying she's invited somewhere fabulous every night and being upset and storming out of fashion week when she didn't have a front row seat.

Michaele sneaking into the White House with no invitation.

Etc.

I see a pattern of women who believe they are sought after, interesting, and important.

^^ Erika Jayne, Luann, Kim Zolciak, Melissa G., etc. all thinking they can perform and sing.

The real question to me is why agree to be on housewives knowing your finances aren’t on the up and up!! Erica, Teresa, Jen Shah - seriously, wtf?

This is the correct answer.

I also know someone else who I’m fairly certain is “auditioning” for one of these shows. It’s really clear in her social media posts that she’s striving for that kind of lifestyle. Boggles the mind.[/quote]

It worked for the Kardashians?

The only Real Housewives I watched was the DC one. It was nuts. That blonde woman who crashed a White House party was bananas.

And Andy Cohen is THE WORST.

I used to - and have a good memory. About 2 years ago I realized how fake and scripted it was and quit. That’s why almost all examples are old.

They are histrionic and want attention. And they need money; as much as that show revolves around display of wealth, all, or at least most of of those women clearly need the money.
