Yeah, that's wrong info. Georgetown has a six year graduation rate of 96%. And I am not a fan of Georgetown, but this ranking is weird. |
It might be related to first amendment law suits or something since the article mentioned freedom of speech being hampered there … |
So you’re saying these colleges were picked because they are heavily black? |
DP It doesn’t make sense unless one knows the colleges on the list are actually known for being black colleges. They might be but I am not familiar with that . Degree Choices said it measured college economic performance and graduation rates to create its list of the worst universities. * Outrageously low earnings after graduation * Alumni who are in debt for most of their lives * Disturbingly low graduation rates |
HBCUs are known to have low graduation rates. Even the "top" ones like Howard, Morehouse and Spellman have relatively low graduation rates. |
Why is that? |
That’s fake new. Trump University is alive and well. That’s where all the students are learning that the US is really us. |
Huh? According to Sexton, Trump signed off on the school's advertisements. For a time in 2008, it used the name "Trump Wealth Institute". In June 2010, Trump University changed its name to "The Trump Entrepreneur Initiative". It largely ceased operations in 2010. https://en.m.wikipedia.org › wiki Trump University - Wikipedia |
Also interested in understanding why HBCUs have low graduation rates …. |
There were a number of arts/music focused colleges on there. I’d bet their grad rates are lower because students drop out or take a pause from college for artistic pursuits. And duh their salaries will be lower than business and engineering grads, but that doesn’t make the education any less valuable. |
I don’t think those schools have graduation rates that are out of line with the student qualifications. For example, Howard has a 6 year graduation rate of 66%, an average HS GPA of 3.66, and an SAT range of 1100-1270. The University of Arizona (just picked because it has similar entering student characteristics) has a 62% 6 year graduation rate, HS GPA of 3.53 and an SAT range of 1140-1240. These are almost identical. Some of the other HBCUs have students with drastically lower entering statistics. For example, Bethune-Cookman has an average SAT of 800 and HS GPA of 2.9. An SAT score of 800 indicates that the student isn’t ready for college, and the graduation rates reflect this. |
Also known as : list of schools I’ve never heard of |
After two years, tuition becomes increasingly more difficult. If eligible, I am sure some transfer to a lower cost state school. I know several Hampton students transferred to the cheaper Virginia state schools. |
Do you think the colleges could do more to help the students at the HBUC graduate at higher rates ? |
Exactly. Low scores are low scores. The PP clearly would like to ignore that fact. |
