Lol, please ignore your mom. She has zero idea what CPS is dealing with.
You will never get reported for this. Get some hoodies & he will probably wear that when it gets cold. |
| My son has always been hot. It's not like we live in upstate NY. |
| lol your mom is being an annoying Boomer. Trust me, CPS has much more on their plate than getting involved if little Timmy isn’t wearing a jacket/hoodie on a cool morning. |
| Your mom is being absurd. He's waiting for the bus for like 20-30 minutes max. Then he's inside most of the morning. Then the afternoon is usually a warmer temperature. This isn't a problem. Tell your mom she's welcome to call CPS and ask them. |
| Yeah, your mom is being silly. My 1st grader will begrudgingly wear his sweatshirt about half the time while waiting for the bus, but as soon as he gets on I know he is ripping it off and stuffing it in his backpack for the rest of the day. He says the bus is hot. Everyone knows kids refuse to wear jackets, hats, scarves, gloves. |

Ha to your mom!
I live in the Chicago area, and except for when it finally gets VERY cold here, the ES boys all wear shorts, these athletic knee socks, t-shirts, and hoodies. I think they look like cold little weirdos, but it's the thing.

Has your mom driven by a bus stop recently? None of the kids have coats, and most of the boys will be in shorts year round.
It's fine. It's your kid's body, let him wear what makes him comfortable. He's not gonna get frost bite standing at the bus stop in 40 degree weather. |
| My DD was this way. Still is (in HS now). We just took the approach that she'll either be comfortable or she'll learn. On the coldest of days she still just wears a sweatshirt, that about it. Different bodies, different thermostats.... |
| Put away the clothing you don’t want him to wear, jacket in the backpack and give consequences. Some teachers will let you leave a coat at school. |
| My DS is a shorts guy. He might pull his socks up if it gets really cold. I've given up. |
| I live in chicago and teenage boys are out in shorts in 10 degree weather. there's no knocking sense into them about it, but i'd assume if they were getting cold related injuries, it'd be less common or the schools would ban shorts |
| CPS is not going to get involved. You know who is DEFINITELY gonna get involved though? Your mom and biddies like your mom who police other people's kids' clothing choices. This used to happen to me all the time when I had little kids in the DC area. Folks' sense of temperature is skewed and half the older ladies seem to think you are literally killing your child if they're not wearing a parka, fur hat, mittens, and snowboots the second it drops below 50 degrees. |
| OMG, CPS is not coming. I just made mine put a pair of sweatpants/joggers in their backpack in ES so they could go outside. Once they were in MS, the teachers and admin DID NOT CARE. |
Don't be this parent |
| My 8 yo was like this, it was like she thought "never cold" was her personality. Now 10 and she went to school in pants and a sweater this morning. Don't make it a fight. |
