Forever 21

Serious question: who are you women who actually go into this mall shop and are 25 or 30 years old? Are you nannies on the DCUM site by chance? Or are you 30 year old mothers but not living in DC or its suburbs?

I am merely curious, just as I would be if someone posted "Where Can I Buy An Excellent Walker?" and several people responded that they loooove their walker, it has brakes, and they got it thru Medicaid last fall.

Just curious why you would post this. Maybe you're just too big for their clothes?

Yes, to be honest, I am somewhat too big and, mainly, built "all wrong" for their clothes. When I was 23, 24, I think I could've fit into the low low low rider pants and skimpy cami B-cup tops. OTOH, when I was 23, I wouldn't have been on DCUM. Like I said, it really is just curiosity, because none of mom friends except 1 could fit into Forever 21 clothes -- we're all about 42-45, and none of us are fat slobs. A couple of us are even thin, but have hips typical of a woman who's had 3 kids.

9:41PP here, again (still procrastinating). The "too big for their clothes" poster was a bit mean, but you do know that not every mom in DC is over 40 with 3 kids right? That said, I understand your being curious, it's the same feeling I get when I read the posts about shopping at Land's End and wearing skorts. It just goes to show that there is no "mom-appropriate" fashion, what is appropriate should be based on your body, the occasion, and what you feel good wearing (within reason).

On a more practical note, I always wash the stuff I get in Forever 21 in the delicate cyce, even the tanks, and it makes them last much longer.

Don't people over say 25, look silly in their clothes? Do they realize this? After a certain age, you look silly in juniors clothing. Simple. There are plenty of other stores.

I'm the 32-year-old PP and yes, I am a mother, no, I'm not a nanny, and yes, I live in D.C.

So far I don't think any of the people who say they shop there sound like they buy the majority, or even much, of their wardrobe there. I posted that I like their incredibly cheap jewelry and might occasionally find a shirt. I'm not skinny and I definitely don't dress like a teenager or from the juniors department. Yes, it is less likely that I will still be able to find anything that suits me when I'm 40 or 45, but 32 is not 45.

I'm 46 and responded that I'm a 2/4 and wouldn't consider buying their clothes.

When I was 32 I thought that 46 sounded very old....but perhaps when you're in your forties you'll realize that most women in their mid-forties are not particularly decrepit.

I'm the 32-year-old and I do not think 40-something sounds "decrepit." I don't think I insinuated that, either. I'm merely saying that just because a 45-year-old wouldn't want to buy those clothes doesn't mean that they are all inappropriate for someone in her early 30's. A 21-year-old can wear something that a 32-year-old can't, and a 32-year-old might be able to wear something that a 45-year-old can't or won't. No one here sounds like she relies on Forever 21 for everything. There is a lot I wouldn't be caught dead in, but I get lots of compliments on some of my Forever 21 jewelry, and I have had at least three or four shirts from there in the not so distant past that look like Ella Moss or something even more expensive.

I wouldn't shop there (I'm 39), but this thread bothers me the same way it bothers me when people start cracking on Talbots, Chicos and Ann Taylor -- or any other store.

It amazes me how quick the contributors on this site are to start tearing down each others fashion choices. It is very middle school and whether people intend it or not, I'm sure it causes some people angst.

You're my kinda gal! I totally agree with these points. I've bought a few items from Forever 21 mostly tops and accessories but even found a couple of dresses there that look very respectable and pretty on. I've also seen some young women in their 20s without kids wearing some of these clothes several sizes too small - that doesn't look good on anyone and might be what some of the other posters have in mind. It depends on what looks good on you too and it sometimes requires a search to find what you like.

I don't shop regularly at forever 21 but i got tank tops and a few cardigans a couple of times there. Most other stuff doesn't fit right on my no longer 21 frame...

This is totally unrelated, but I just moved back from Europe and there the store is Forever 18, not Forever 21 I just thought that was funny.

Carry on with your lives.

Who cares how old you are...my mom bought some tanks for layering from Forever 21 and she's (horrors!) a spry 66! She is NOT buying short jorts or other slutwear but for a $5 tank to wear under a shirt or sweater, why should she drop $40 at Nordstrom? I wish people would realize it's what you buy and how you wear it (not to mention how it FITS), not where you buy it or how much you spend. Tory Burch flip flops, anyone?!

Confession of a non-fashionista: If I saw you and happened to notice your outfit, I probably would not know what store you bought your clothes at.

I quickly got tired of places like Forever 21 and H&M where the clothes wear out after one wear/wash. The clothes are terrible quality. I don't have a huge clothing budget but I would rather pay a little more for clothes taht fit my adult body and that last.

I do like jewelry/bags/belts/accessories from both of those stores though!
Anonymous
12:09 - agree the clothes aren't worth the bags they come in.

While I admit some things don't hold up (though I think I have at least 6-7 items I've had for over 5 years) I find that high end stores have lost their qualcontrol. I've bought plenty of expensive items that haven't held together well and it discourages me from paying too much for clothes.

I haven't found any other shop where I can buy a cami for $2.50. For 2.50 I also picked up a belt that was $30 at J Crew. And for costume jewelry that I will only wear once or twice...why not.
