I really like the new-ish "Gym" tab that allows for more self-paced weightlifting workouts that are better suited for lifting heavier weights. You can also listen to your own music. It's nice for changing it up! |
I'm the PP--I forgot about that new functionality in the app. I'm going to check it out. Does the instructor talk you through it or you just go at your own pace following their schedule? |

Another recommendation for BodyPump -- it's only offered at certain gyms and some YMCAs. It is a great program and hits most major muscle groups. It's set to music, is a fun class, and is a great workout. Google it so you can see what it looks like. |
Orange Theory Strength 50 classes |
CrossFit!! It has changed my life.
*runs away before someone throws a shoe at her…* |
The shorter classes have less downtime - sometimes it’s more efficient to stack 3 10 minute classes than to do a 30 minute class. I do both depending on my mood - sometimes the breaks really help you gear up for your next set if you are truly aiming for failure in the exercise and going heavy. But I do find it annoying when I’m in a time crunch and using medium weights. |
Those of you using the Peloton app, are you doing this at home or in a gym? If in a gym, how are you doing it? Meaning can you listen to it only (via Airpods) or is it something that you have to watch as well? |
Non peloton owner here. The app’s yoga and strength classes got me through 2020-21 when gyms were closed. Happy to push that crap because it is great. |

So cult-like. |
Anyone want to answer more details on how the app works? Is it a video so you have to watch it while you're doing it? Are you all doing this at home with a gym? |
NP - who also strongly endorses Peloton's content - the strength classes in the app are videos, yes. I do them at home; my equipment here is a yoga mat and a few sets of dumbbells. They also have bodyweight strength classes. Someone experienced could probably just do the workouts by listening to them, but for a newbie, it's important to watch so you see the form. |
There are a couple of options. If you are new to strength training, then I would go the traditional route and stream the workout from the app and follow along. You can do one longer (20, 30-minute) workout or stack several 10-minute workouts targeting different muscle groups. Another option is the Peloton gym programming, also in the app. These are non-video strength workouts. I haven't tried them so can't vouch for them but you can read more here: https://www.onepeloton.com/blog/peloton-gym/ |
