They don't think you want to hear it. They don't think about you AT ALL. They are completely self-engrossed in what they want and they don't notice other people or care what they think. We have become a nation of self-centered individuals, most of whom only think about themselves and don't think about anyone else.
This, above. And sadly, if you try to ask politely that they turn down the volume, you possibly risk a confrontation or much worse. The days are gone when you could have pointed out, "I'm sorry, would you mind turning down the volume?" and they would have been sheepish and realized they were a nuisance, and would have turned it down. Try that now and you're risking who knows what response.
I once sat in the quiet car on Amtrak with my ear phones in my ears but unbeknownst to me unplugged. Meaning I was watching a movie with full volume in the quiet car. People were glaring at me and I had no idea why. Finally someone new got on the train and politely asked me to listen with ear phones. I was so confused but finally figured it out. I was like, “oh my gosh y’all could have told me sooner thwt is so obnoxious of me, I’m sorry” and everyone laughed. I couldn’t understand why no one pointed it out to me earlier.
