Best MLS-Next program in the area (other than DC United)

Syc has a really strong 2011 cohort.
Achilles 09s disappeared?
The latter is a case of branding catching up with reality.

I dont have optics into other age groups because my kids are younger.

Aren’t at least 1 or 2 kids from
Achilles 09 go to DCU?

Based on where DCU academy is recruiting from however, haven’t all those clubs have kids scouted into the academy? So they all can develop kids with pro potential.

Not sure about the dislike for SYC. DS has played against them and they are great competitors . The coaching may not be for everyone but seems to be a cut throat environment.

Agree on this. Let's see how many DCU recruited from locals for U14.

At U14, I wouldn’t give these clubs all the credit though as I believe some kids recruited at that level may have joined those clubs just a year or two prior.

A bit different when they’re recruited at older age groups and/or have been at the club for a long time.

Non-MLS Next clubs can and do send kids to DC United and more can if DCU is more willing to scout outside of MLSNext.

DCU takes a bunch of kids from Pipeline, which is not in MLS Next.

Any club can have talented kids - technical ability is largely independent of coaching - it's down to the kid's own innate abilities + the amount of work the kid is willing to put in.

Any club can encourage competitiveness. Competitiveness is a good thing - and if SYC develop it to a greater extent than other clubs that is a plus.

However - in my view - coaching should be judged by how well the club teaches kids to make the right decisions at the right time, and the style of soccer they are able to play as a result. This is the main thing that coaches can teach. SYC is horrible at this.

It’s just like the college board, when a kid is rejected or doesn’t make it, parents come on to tear down the club/institution. I have never trusted parents thoughts on this board. I have seen them tear apart hood people and even other kids.

Oh, and on the flip side, whatever Club/team my kid plays for is the absolute bestest most elite place on the East Coast. All until their kid losing his/her starting position or gets demoted.

I made a couple of the negative comments about SYC on this thread. My kid has never played for SYC, nor been rejected by them. He has played against them many times. My comments are based on what I have seen of the way the club teaches the kids to play. They were not intended to reflect poorly on the kids - without a doubt there are some talented kids at SYC. They were intended purely as criticism of what the coaches at SYC are teaching the kids.

I haven’t really seen many claiming their clubs are the bestest or whatever. Every club DS practiced with touted their coaching and all the coaches said they were the best at training and developing.

I’m sure most parents, especially those whose kids are already on top teams, are immune to that sell up and focus on what club best suits their kids needs.

I posted what I thought was positive and critical feedback on SYC. That was not one of the clubs DS practiced with, it was based on the few times his team played an SYC team.

I don’t think anyone disputes that there are talented kids in that club. They were super competitive players. Each game played however, the coach screams at the players, and not on an occasional basis, but just a constant barrage. Is that not true?

If that works for some kids, I’m sure their parents know that and keep them there. It’s effective coaching for those kids.

My kids club is not perfect either and we knew that going in. I wouldn’t recommend for some players we know but it’s a good fit for him.
