I’ve been reading the book of Mark and noticed there are many demons driven out. Chapter 5 even talks about a legion of demons being driven out of a man who used to be chained up and would cut himself with stones.

I grew up very involved in the church. My parent were involved as well. Unfortunately, my mom used to beat me regularly and tell me she hated me and wished I was dead. My dad, an elder in the church, molested me for years and eventually raped my mom in front of me.

I had a lot of pain and some mental illness in my 20s and used to slit my wrists when my parents would say or do mean things to me. I was part of a Bible study that practiced speaking in tongues and believed in demon possession. It was loosely affiliated with the Methodist church. My therapist was part of that Bible study.

My therapist , pastor, and I were chatting one evening and they said I was possessed by many demons. They called me Legion, and that nickname stuck, so I was called Legion from then on.

Eventually, I quit going, quit school, and moved away.

Now my life is in order, but I still have the desire to cut - I just don’t do it. With all the references to the demon possessed made in Mark, I’ve been wondering what people think about being demon possessed. I live in constant fear that people will find out how messed up I am. Maybe Legion was a good name for me.

Oh.... no, OP.

You may have depression. Who wouldn't after what you have been through. Mental illness isn't demonic possession.

The demons (so to speak) are the people who hurt you.

I hope you are able to find some help, and peace.

Why do you think there are serial killers ? Why do they name their entities ?
Why do so many shooters say they don't remember shooting anyone ?
Why do psych doctors refuse to admit there is possibly demon possessed people ?
Simple fact, devil on one shoulder angel on the other.
All of the Popes were demons.
We are about to see many many demons. The ones that sold their souls for fame and fortune.
Speaking in tongues IS demon possession.

You need help. FAST.

How was it that your therapist was allowed to break confidentiality and disclose your personal details to other people such as your pastor?

Did your therapist not notify the police that your parents were abusing you? Therapists have a duty to report abuse of a minor to law enforcement.

I am not saying you weren’t abused, but if you were, your therapist was had a legal obligation to report the abuse and assist law enforcement.

If a human being slit their wrists a single time, without seeking medical care, they will bleed out.

Some of the evangelical churches in my area have "therapists" or "counselors" who aren't licensed therapists. They're trained to give "Biblical counseling" by their church. They frequently do more harm than good.

They aren’t real therapists or counselors then. Op was abused by their parents, who were supposed to protect them. Parents have the duty and moral obligation to love and protect their children. I don’t know if op is telling the truth, but no human can repeatedly “slit their wrists” without bleeding out and dying. one time slitting wrists is a death sentence without quick and competent emergency medical care.

I have attended multiple evangelical churches and never was any counseling or therapy offered besides pastoral counseling from the pastor. There were no unlicensed therapists or counselors offering services to church members. I doubt that is a real thing.

Can you name the churches this type of service is offered at? Link to their website and show the staff that does so?

It is a real possibility the OP needs an exorcism. This is still a rite of the Catholic church. And maybe it would be like a palliative and help them exorcize their demons. Ask your pastor.

I think you have a choice to make, OP. You can be crazy, like this person. Or you can get yourself a good therapist, get away from religion and be sane. I advise choosing the latter.

It sounds like distancing yourself from your family and from that particular church are the first step to healing. If the story is real.

+1 That is not a healthy Christian church, or family.

Unfortunately, religion doesn't protect you from abuse, as we all know.

But, there are many loving Christian families and churches. I have heard stories of people leaving their church because of abuse, and then eventually finding a loving church. It's transformative.

I don't know about demon possession, per se, but I do think people can be very much influenced by evil, call it demons if you like.
