Proof of residency- house deed?

You can also use Fairfax County's tax website - the school will accept an image of that.

NP- will they accept a ratified sales contract? We're from out of the area about to put in an offer on an off market property and I'm wondering if the closing date matters to ensure my kid can still go on the first day.

We used that too. FCPS.

I don't believe they will, because so many things can go wrong between contract and settlement. I also feel like that would be an easier document to forge.

Your deed should be with your passports and other super important paperwork. We keep ours in the safe.

Look through your 1000pgs of paperwork. It's in there.

You need to find it regardless of needing it for enrolling in fcps.

We purchased our home a year ago and I don’t recall ever seeing anything called a deed just what felt like 1000s of pages of paperwork. We also get Ebills so we don’t have paper utility bills.

I do have a county mailing regarding our real estate, taxes, and a refund check from the electric company. Will those work?

It does not say you need a deed PLUS a utility bill. Please read the directions again.

You can get a copy of the deed through Fairfax County:

I had to get the deed for this reason - the company that did my closing pulled it and sent it to me via email. So you might call and ask them.

Maybe. I think it depends on the school. I'd try to make nice with the front office personnel, but even if they let you use the contract they will want a deed or other proof of residence once you have it.

As long as you are actually living in Fairfax County inside your school's catchment area on the first day of school and have all of your paperwork ready, your kid can go to school on the first day. If you are in your house by the first day of school, then you would have your settlement paperwork.

When are you planning to move in to your new house?

I submitted a mortgage statement.

It’s a public document easily accessible online. Doesn’t need to be in a safe. You can literally download it whenever you need it (which is very rare).

+1

We registered a few months ago, and a recent mortgage statement was acceptable.

No, not a ratified sales contract. You need to have proof that you have closed. As PP pointed out, a lot can happen between contract and settlement. There are so many contingencies that people get out or ratified sales contracts all the time (even in no-contingency sales, if there is an HOA, there is an HOA contingency that cannot be waived by state law in most states).

So you have to actually have closed. When our kids were in K, we bought in the school district we wanted. I called the school office and they told me exactly what I needed out of the closing documents package to bring to the office to register. So you might try that. I was told the name of the form and I just searched through the 982 pages until I found the document with that title and brought that. And I registered my kids in like 15 minutes at the school office.

Um, do you not know what a deed is or can you just not find it? A deed is a pretty important document for a homeowner.

You should be able to print out a utility bill. Deed is going to be somewhere in that 1000s of pages of paperwork.

I printed out the first couple pages of my deed---the part that shows ownership and parcel location. That was accepted.
