Hello! I’m trying to register my children in FCPS and it says we have to show proof of residency with our house deed plus a utility bill.
We purchased our home a year ago and I don’t recall ever seeing anything called a deed just what felt like 1000s of pages of paperwork. We also get Ebills so we don’t have paper utility bills. I do have a county mailing regarding our real estate, taxes, and a refund check from the electric company. Will those work? |
It does not say you need a deed PLUS a utility bill. Please read the directions again. https://www.fcps.edu/registration/general-registration-requirements/documents You can get a copy of the deed through Fairfax County: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/circuit/land-records/general-information |
| Length of people rent their home and their kids can attend the local school. Utility bill document is the easiest. |
So you think you can just show up with one utility bill, and that's your proof of residence? Yeah, no. Try again. You should be able to print out a utility bill. Deed is going to be somewhere in that 1000s of pages of paperwork. |
| Homeowners receive the deed when they purchase property. It shows the transfer of property from one party to another. You surely have this?! |
| Your deed should be in with your closing documents. You can always contact the closing agent or your realtor if you can’t find it. You can also print off the eBill you receive in your email. |
| Can you just go to fairfax county icare, plug in the adddress and print your purchase info? |
No |
| If you’re too lazy to get a feed, print off a sample lease and lease the house to yourself for $0 |
| The deed is recorded in your local county land records and you should be able to find it easily by googling for the local county land records. |
|
You can look up the book and page number of your deed using the search in the following link and use that information to request a copy of the deed using a form from the earlier posted link on getting land record copies.

| We just registered in MCPS and sent a copy of the Settlement Agreement. It was about a 2 page document reflecting the sale of the house to us (location, price, date, etc...). |
Not relevant. |
| Both elementary schools that we registered at allowed us to bring in a printed mortgage statement showing our name and address. |
