Next door people are saying the victim was shot 4 times in the head.
If true, that doesn't really sound like a robbery. |
There usually is lots of police in that area. But this happened in the parking garage (maybe because there are lots of police elsewhere). I am not sure how realistic it is to expect police to have blanketed the parking garage. Perhaps the bigger question is why businesses like Society and other clubs continue to even be allowed to operate. Maybe the county could at least terminate the liquor license, or not allow alcohol past midnight. Nightlife is great, but not when the establishments have a pattern of bringing criminals and violence to otherwise peaceful neighborhoods. |
In Virginia Beach recently (Wavy local news) they shut down a nuisance bar and charged the owner. Also revoced her liquor license. It can be done. |
I wish Moco had the will to do something similar. Society closes at 2:30, shooting happens at 2:40. |
I have a lot of bias against the Society lounge owner. He has a federal conviction for trafficking huge amounts of marijuana from out of state to his restaurant in Laurel. He purchased Society with drug money. The federal government seized ownership of it. Not sure how he got it back but I hear the liquor license is in his sister's name. Having said that, over the past couple of years, he has worked very hard and proactively to prevent any violence associated with his restaurant. He has security and checks for customers for weapons, and pays off duty police to patrol around the area. So while there are problems around there, I don't think Society is it. |
I mean, the owner can do all the weapon checks in the world, but his establishment seems to attract people who still find ways to get in gunfights. I posted one link above from 2020. Here is another from December 2021: https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/crime/silver-spring-businesses-struck-by-gunfire/65-c9d48d5b-268b-44c5-84b2-03fd1048d7a0 Maybe this morning's incident will somehow be unrelated to Society. I guess we'll see. |
It sounds like a murder. |
Yeah, so targeted or is there a serial killer in SS? |
The fact that the last murder was totally random and also in a parking garage there makes me wonder. |
There was a huge forum in downtown Silver Spring a couple of months ago about the rise in violent crime (I was there). It was organized by elected officials and they also mentioned other local officials who were present and/or had sent their staff. They also had police and local business owners there. You may think elected officials aren’t doing enough, but it’s not accurate that they’ve barely acknowledged it. https://moco360.media/2023/03/29/county-officials-discuss-silver-spring-public-safety-measures-during-community-forum/ |

"Montgomery County Police Major Crimes detectives responded to the location and are investigating this homicide. Through the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Bailey was walking inside of the parking garage after leaving a nearby restaurant." Hmm, I wonder which restaurant that could have been that would have been open around 2:40 AM. |
It was Kaldi’s and if you look on data montgomery for calls of service you’ll see cops get called there several times a week |
|
If you’re not typically out at 2:30 am , why would this concern anyone?
OP sounds like a concern troll. |
You’re “beginning” to question? Or maybe you post all the time about crime and how horrible and liberal MoCo is. |
