Recommend a daily sunscreen

I love Paula’s choice moisturizer with spf

After some research, I discovered Japanese sunscreen. Apparently, the US has been extremely slow to approve new sunscreen compounds, so Asia is light years ahead on their technology. So you have major recognized cosmetic brands in Asia releasing sunscreens we can’t get here. I like this one, which legitimately feels like nothing on my skin:

I'm 57 and feel the same way about sunscreen. I follow a couple of cosmetic chemists on TikTok which is how I learned about Japanese and Korean sunscreens. I LOVE Beet the Sun and Tocobo sunscreens. It's like wearing nothing at all and they absolutely work. I'm very fair with red hair and burn really easily. Not with these!

I love their Clear tinted version. It feels so nice applying it.

Another happy Elta user

The tinted Cerave sunscreen is outstanding for the price. Mineral-based and lacks the weird slickness of Supergoop.

I have looked for decades and have never found a daily use sunscreen moisturizer that doesn’t feel gross on my face and doesn’t end up causing breakouts.

I don’t bother with sunscreen on my face anymore. I don’t think I need it for the short time I am exposed to the sun on a typical day where I work indoors. On walks with my dog I wear a lovely wide brim sun hat which keeps the sun off my face, and I do the same if I decide to sit outside during the day to read or if I’m gardening or whatnot.

I think the average person who spends the day working indoors under artificial lights doesn’t need sunscreen on their face. Many Americans are deficient in vitamin D because they get so little sun exposure during the hours of the day when a tan or burn is even possible.

YMMV, of course.

If you go to an Asian market there will be lots of facial sunscreens that are clear and lightweight. I actually prefer zinc-based so I like SunBum baby. Since it is so thick it sort of fills in your pores so I don't need any foundation.

+1 to Elta MD.

It doesn't clog your pores?

No, I've used this for years and no problem. Skin looks great. If it's good enough for a baby I figure it's ok for me.
The PP who said don't use sunscreen for vitamin D needs....I disagree. I don't wear it on my arms or legs but facial skin is much thinner and more delicate, and sun spots are never attractive. Plus most anti-wrinkle products make you even more photosensitive.

I love the LRP mineral one (anthelios). I prefer the tinted one but also like and use the non-tinted version.

I take this approach too, but I don’t use retinol. I think a lot of people do and so they really do need extra sun protection.

I was of this mindset (I feel this way about moisturizer too!), but in my 40s and living in Florida, I wanted to find a solution. I'm the person who first recommended the Asian brands above, which were the only products I ever found that felt like literally nothing on my skin. All other sunscreens have made me feel disgusting.

I’ve always used Olay daytime moisturizer with SPF - most recently regenerist but now the newest one with peptides and stuff. Always feels like I have nothing on and my dermatologist always raves about my skin (I’m mid 50s and redheaded).

If I’m going to be in the sun for hours I will add a layer of sunscreen that has titanium dioxide, which I don’t love to wear daily but it provides great protection for me.
