It already (and has always had) a daycare for students who have children. I would much rather a girl that gets pregnant stay in school vs having to drop out. It's better for her, her baby and society as a whole. |
The idea in and of itself is not the issue. It’s that ACPS already faces challenges it cannot manage, and it’s answer has often been experimentation that has been not only unsuccessful but also detrimental to students. There are any number of examples, but the 4x4 schedule ACHS implemented after Covid comes to mind. Truly one of the most poorly thought out ideas that, of course, was abandoned after one year. Same goes for “lunch and learn,” ask abandoned after a year or so. Instead of embracing tried and true solutions that have shown results, such as smaller schools and classrooms, they’re constantly looking to “innovate.” And it’s the kids, and the teachers, who suffer. |
How did parents make this known? I don't recall PTAC or any PTA getting involved, making a statement or organizing parents. When Hutchings came to speak about this at our PTA meeting, the one parent who asked a question was easily rebuffed by his word salad and accusations of racism. Posting on closed Facebook pages run by PTAC lackeys doesn't count. |
Plan doesn’t seem to be working. The one sport that does win, 80% of the players live within 1/2 mile of each other. |
And yet Alexandria City teams don’t dominate any sports. |
I don’t follow Titan athletics but surely they must be winning state titles in crew, soccer, basketball, lacrosse, ice hockey, gymnastics, etc. Anecdotally most people know those sports are strong there or were strong recently. |
Umm also, if they only have one highschool they don't need to have more feilds for kids to play sports on and that fits perfectly with the city council and Wilson's plan to sell all green space to developers. |
The ironic thing is that Alexandria actually has two public high schools 9-10th and 11-12th.
It’s a failed social experiment that the bleeding hearts don’t want to admit that it didn’t work, but also don’t want to improve the schools or even acknowledge the problem either. |
Aren’t the two schools 9th and 10-12? |
Yes, that’s what I meant. Although even more confusingly ACPS is doing some reorganization to have both sites support 9-12…so two schools but not really. I suspect they’ll just codify the internal segregation the school(s) already has/have. Keeping the same overarching name allows liberals to save face, have their cake, and eat it too. |
Did the majority of Alexandria actually vote on this? I don't remember seeing this on any sort of referendum. Surely you're not referencing some sort of BS ACPS survey? |
Yes. Per the CHSN, both sites will be 9-12 and all students will have some classes in the new building. |
Ignorant bigotry. Early childhood education is also a college degree program. |
its a career thing and also so the moms who are in high school have on site childcare. With teen pregnancy rates dropping - oh its VA so that might change with overturn of R v. W- I dont see why that would be a significant need. I guess they assume the teen pregnancy rates will shoot up again, how sad. |
Volleyball state champions 2020, 2022. That’s it as far as team sports recently I think. |
