It's fine, especially with a proper diet (not dieting). Everyone should also be stretching daily, walking up/down stairs, and be able getting up unassisted from the floor (this is an important test of physical shape as we age). Sort of.
But that 15 minutes probably needs a 5-10 min warm up. And then the 15 has to be HARD Look at Street Parking. Most of their workouts are under 20. And leave you lying on the floor in a puddle. |
It’s better than nothing but not “in shape”. |
Damn, tough crowd! I do a 20 min Peloton rides each day and I feel like I'm in decent shape as a result. Not going to be winning any Olympic medals, but I can hold my own. |
Focus on your diet to maintain your weight.
15-20 minutes of HIIT or targeted strength workouts and some long walks can be enough for basic fitness/cardio health. That in combination with a good diet is a solid plan. Do the longer workouts time permitting. |
Who does good strength workout videos? |
Ha! Sedentary-light exercise?? A 20 min hiit workout has nothing sedentary about it. |
No, you can't. |
So 20 minutes of hard exercise, a 20 minute walk, and potentially sitting/sleeping for 23 hours and 15 minutes is not sedentary? This is why Americans are fat... |
Wow just because you’re lazy and sit or lie around all day any time you can doesn’t mean others are. |
The level of snark here is unreal. Can you run a sub 5:30 minute mile? If the answer is no, then I have decided you are not "in shape," because I can run a sub 5:30 minute mile in my early 40s. My body fat percentage also hovers around 12, and since you are statistically unlikely to have such a low body fat percentage, I have also decided you are fat. |
OP, it worked for me. I'm 42, slim (that helps, i think). I've been doing PT for the past 6 months and basically stopped all other exercise except for the 20 minutes of PT exercises that I've been instructed to do, and i actually think my body looks better than it did when I was doing a big workout once or twice a week. I do use weights and resistance bands to help. I do my 20 mins every day, without fail. As you say, it's easy to fit in. |
Oh definitely!! Actually in mid life it is better to cut back on intense cardio and really high impact stuff. Do 2-3 weight training sessions a week and the rest cardio or walking. You should shoot for 150 minutes to maintain cardio health -
“Get at least 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes per week of vigorous aerobic activity, or a combination of both, preferably spread throughout the week.” My Fitbit tracks this for me. If you are doing a vigorous 15 min or a moderate 30 (or a mix of both) then it is plenty to keep your heart healthy. |
I'm PP... I'll add that I live in the city and walk and bike most places... So every day I have to walk 2 miles taking my kids to school and picking them up, and I often bike somewhere 15ish minutes away (like Dupont circle) a few times a week. So I imagine that helps too. |
You sound like an arrogant moron. |
