This is exactly where we are. We typically do every other day but she is stinkier so we told her we are moving to every day and some deodorant for really really active days. |
During the week, DD showers every day and washes her hair every other day. If she was super sweaty or swam in a pool, she'll wash her hair even if she did so the day before. The weekends are more relaxed so she might go until Sunday night to shower and wash hair, depending on what we do.
When my DS was that age, he showered every day and washed hair every day for the most part. He's always been a super sweaty kid. |
I tend to have a non-judgmental attitude to different styles of parenting, but I confess the people without the daily bath/shower routine puzzle me. We've always done it, and for folks saying, but dry hair, you could skip the hair part. For us, it was as much about establishing a routine, and promoting healthy sleep schedule. Also, just feels like you're setting yourself up for a battle when they approach puberty and HAVE to start doing daily. |
Boys are 6 and 8.
Every other day with the exception that they always shower or bathe if they have sports or go swimming. The natural result is daily bathing in the summer because camp counts as “sports”. I don’t make the 6yr old wash his hair every time since he can’t do it by himself. If he wants to look like he has a birds nest on his head, that’s his choice - unless he smells dirty and then I intervene. |
DS7 bathes everyday but I remember a neighbor who is 11 saying that she bathe 3 times a week...

Twice a week.
Ten year old brother showers every other day. Wasn’t hard to make the transition. |
Every day because he's very active and always sweaty. He only washes his hair 1-2x a week. |
My 5.5 yo was showering every 2-3 days, but now I’ve noticed that he smells sweaty from running around at recess. So he’s been showering daily for the past few days. |
Our oldest (10) was every other day at that age. He then developed a 'stinky pit' just before lockdown, and since we've been back, everyone bathes daily during the week. It kinda sucks for the 7 year old, but he actually doesn't fight that schedule. |
Eh, my kid doesn’t shower daily, but he doesn’t complain about bathing either. He actually enjoys showers. He also has no issues falling or staying asleep, whether or not he bathes that night. |
Same |
Children are with me half of the week and their father the other half. I make sure my 4 and 6 year old shower or bathe at least once when they are with me, and I've asked their dad to do the same, but it's been a battle with him, so usually I end up washing them when they get to my place and then again before they leave.
My kids are half black so their hair doesn't need washing more than 1-2 times a week, and their skin gets dry if they bathe every day. |
My 3 kids (10, 8, 6) take a bath or shower every night before bed unless they are out particularly late for some reason. We've done this since they were babies, my wife and i always bathed daily, etc. Honestly i'm kind of surprised to see all of the every other day or even longer gaps and wonder if it's cultural? We are US born and raised. Also, my 8 and 6 year old are constantly dirty, sitting or playing on the floor or outdoors, doing cartwheels, falling down, you can literally see the dirt most days. |
Depends on physical activity and season. |
Black mom with biracial kids here, use lotion. Also, even if you're not washing their hair daily, please moisturize it daily to avoid breakage. |
