What word in the phrase “shall not be infringed” are you unable to grasp. The United States exists today because the colonists had weapons sufficient to defeat the mighty British Army.

We might have been better off to remain part of Britain! No stupid 2A.

Don’t like the second amendment then work with your legislators to draft an amendment to repeal it. Just like was done with prohibition. Get it through Congress signed by the President and ratified by 38 states. Simple as that.

Lefties are just pissed the Court is no longer serving as their means to get their agenda through. They could never get most of their positions through Congress so they used the Court to hold mini-constitutional conventions to accomplish their ends by way of substantive due process and penumbras and emanations. Now that that is gone, they attack the Court as illegitimate because Hillary ran a crappy vampaign and lost to the Orange Man. Boo hoo.

Because the court we have now is essentially irrelevant. And the decisions they hand down are equally irrelevant, because all those decisions favor the right. Biden needs to add at least 8 progressive Justices to the Court for it to have anything approaching credibility.

Because then it will provide decisions you like as opposed to one’s based on what the constitution requires. Have your representatives work to change the constitution to your liking. That is the path you should be pursuing.

Remember.... you are responding to people who believe the Constitution is malleable and fluid and can be interpreted as they see fit.
Likewise, they believe SCOTUS should rule based on what is popular today and not based on law.

Yes I know. Just spending a little time inside their heads. Slow day.

That is a dangerous place to spend even a little bit of time.

Remember when McConnell said appointments during presidential elections were bad and blocked an Obama appointment and the changed his mind and seated a Trump appointee 4 years later? Why are people surprised that people no longer see the court as legitimate when one part so bluntly packed it?

The conservatives justices have proven beyond a doubt that they are only there to push a political agenda. An agenda that has little support and is not inline with mainstream modern thinking. Add in the open corruption and the court has no moral or legal standing.

Agreed. All it takes is one Governor + state AG to say “Nah, we’re not letting 18 year olds buy handguns in our state” and thus country goes to hell in a hand basket very quickly.

But I’m guessing that’s actually what Republicans want - the dismantling of the federal government and all three branches

It’s a constitution, not a code of laws. Of course it isn’t calcified.

Changes to the Constitution are made through Amendments. It has been done many times.
And, yes, the Constitution is law. And, it is the basis on which more specific laws in a county, state, or country are made.

the basic principles and laws of a nation, state, or social group that determine the powers and duties of the government and guarantee certain rights to the people in it

The 2nd Amendment was radically reinterpreted by Scalia in Heller. Of course it’s “malleable” - we watched Scalia do it himself.

No it is not. Current definition of militia per US Code - The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32 , under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.

I support not discriminating against people due to old age, so am fine with them having arms as well.

It was based on an ideological scaffolding that was erected in the 1980s by a bunch of FedSoc hacks from the GOP. Dismantling Heller would also be based on “Constitutional law.”

There is no single truth when you just need 5 votes.
