Fort Totten Metro: Kid jumped out of a car with a gun this afternoon to take my phone

Anonymous
Thanks for posting - my teen was planning on walking over to Fort Totten this afternoon and we decided that I would pick him up instead.

Charles Allen would say the kid with the gun is the real victim here

Change the cover on their phone? What does that mean?

There was no crime here. Nothing was taken. No report was made. Everyone is perfectly safe.

Attempted robbery is a crime, even if nothing was taken and if there isn’t a report. OP isn’t required to report it, and we’re all glad they’re safe. But still a crime.

I sometimes wish a Batman figure would come save us because it’s clear the police aren’t going to do anything.

Maybe there is a reason for that......

Same in the surrounding jurisdictions. Police forces are severely understaffed all around. However, for DC staffing seems to matter less since they don’t ever seem to bring anyone to justice, and if they do, they are out again wreaking havoc a short while later.

This is a joke, right? Wow! There were several crimes here, and that is not a subjective matter!!

This is OP. Are you always this stupid?

But to answer, I use my phone to pay for metro. Usually I put it in my jacket pocket, but with the warm weather yesterday, I wasn't wearing one so it was still in my left hand.

But you are an idiot anyway. What percentage of people aren't carrying a phone?

Op you should report it. Presumably, the police could beef up their presence, catch the kid in the act the next time.

I ran and he pushed me saying "just give me your phone" and I got up and kept running and he jumped back into the passenger seat of the car. That's my route walking home, so I took the long way to not have to head back that direction just in case. No way the kid was older than HS age.

I think I'm going to keep taking my chances and not hand over a phone or wallet if this ever happens again.

Another option would be to move to a safer city/ state.

Your life is worth more than a dumb phone or wallet, OP. You got lucky this time. Maybe not so next time. Either smarten up or move to Mayberry before you get yourself killed.

Don't worry, I am sure they carry a few dimes to call home on the nearest pay phone.

Same thing happening to high school students.

Really?

I thought about walking back to the metro and seeing if any cops were around (they are often standing right in front of the apt. building by the 7/11, but not today).

What would I tell them? A skinny kid wearing a mask jumped out of a white car, but that's all I remember.

There are cameras everywhere, but if you don't report it soon enough they don't keep the film. Report it today. Lots of kid use that metro stop form all the schools in that area. Report.
