This. You look at the quote in detail. You bought the blinds you bought. |
| Check that he didn't order them wrong. My SIL sells blinds and I know from personal experience it's possible. They make a ton of commission, so don't worry about him eating costs if he really did mess up. But if you verbally told you what you wanted and he quoted you something else, it would be tough to get a re-do if you signed off on the quote. I've had that happen, too. |
| Makes no sense why he didn't ask you about adding that feature on. It sounds like he just wanted to be done. |
Insist on getting the shades you want. It's not your problem if the guy says he will "eat the cost". He is a grown up and a business owner. He could handle it differently if he chose. Also, your DH is not "too nice" because he's not being nice to you. He doesn't need to care himself, but he should be respectful of your choices. Tell him if he doesn't want to talk to the shade guy to order what you want, you will. |
+1 Push to get what you want. Unless you signed off on a quote that clearly did NOT have the top-down/bottom-up option. Then it's on you. |
| I’m so happy I’m not rich. I can’t imagine being this upset about a window shade. |
|
Yeah that doesnt make any sense. One of the reason shutters are so popular is because normally they are in two pieces for larger windows or one long piece for shorter windows. The benefit of shutters is that you can angle them upward to let in light but reduce visibility especially with windows that have shutters that can be closed on the bottom half and opened/slightly open on top half.
Your consultant sucks and should have said you can get top down bottom up for the same type of privacy and here's light filtration options. The only caveat is that you have strings hanging down when they are top down but not bottom up. For MOST people, especially with windows that have high visibility to neighbors or the street want light but limited visibility. What a doofus. |
Op here. I'm not rich. Our house gets a lot of direct east sunlight. It's blinding. |
Right? Aluminum foil works just fine. |
| OP this is a bummer but it’s totally on you. Live and learn. Never make assumptions when you’re ordering something like this. |
| You don’t need that feature on every window. Pick the most critical ones where you need top down due to the way the sun hits. Compromise and re-do 2-3 windows - but ask carefully and make sure the color will be an exact match if the windows are next to each other. |
Op. We really only did this on the one wall that has all of the windows. It's a townhouse. We would have to redo four windows. |
Op, he's saying the cords are being discontinued as of May 30th. Because I am short, that would be tricky for me as the windows are tall. Weird, I am just now learning about this cord option. My husband is taller so he could help. Most likely, I'll probably do nothing. |
This. It says it on the quote, which you approved. I had one that got mis-ordered but was correct on the quote, and my sales person was able to expedite getting it fixed. You sound like a difficult customer to work with. |
| It doesn't make sense to go from wanting shutters to regular shades. It sounds like he didn't have the form with him and didn't present all of the options. You also received the quote after he left. Not cool. |
