Which war is that? This is the first year in my 20 year olds life we haven’t been at war.

McCarthy (whom it took double digit votes to elect in the first place) has 4 votes to spare and is dealing with everyone from MTG, Bobbert and Gaetz to the tea party in negotiating the debt ceiling. He has yet to articulate a coherent solution. And no, the party holding the Senate and White House isn’t going to give him a rescission halfway through the fiscal year and MTG’s dream list.

France should be concerned because there is a good chance we will default on our debt this year and take France down with us. Looking at my IRA and 529s, I’d feel better if world currency wasn’t tied to the dollar. I think most American don’t understand just how bad a default will be. But they will when SSA and the VA can’t send out checks.

Lol.This is exactly what is called saying a bunch of nothing . We will take france down with them? Do you by any chance have any idea what you're talking about ? Clearly not . Hint : Everything you wrote has zero basis in economics, much less global economics .

Well, it’s mostly politics. McCarthy is screwed. And rather than be John Bonner, he’ll take us all down with him.

I’m involved in this mess as my job. And I think years of government shutdowns where most feds worked now and got paid later have made you, like most Americans, not realize how involved the federal government is in… everything. If the federal government stops paying its bills, which include payment that keep grandma in groceries and liquidity that keeps banks lending (and VA benefits, Medicare reimbursements, SBA loans, VA loans, etc, etc) 2008 is going to look like a minor bump in the road. How much are the bonds in your portfolio worth if the government won’t redeem them). And once the dollar nose dives, everything tied to the dollar nosedives.

The problem with playing chicken every year and getting closer and closer before pulling away is that at some point there will be a collision.

It takes an act of congress to pull out of NATO.

Which is the only reason it didn’t happen. But you can sit down now and stop it with the Biden lack of NATO leadership. The former guy hated NATO and worked against it.

I don't think you know who you're replying to.

If the US was counting on france for anything , world War 2 would've been stopped in its infancy . They couldn't even be counted on to defend themselves against the nazis . It's not like they have a history of winning wars .

America’s investment in Ukraine is tiny compared to the burden shouldered in Europe. Europe pushed too far by Washington. You should have seen it coming Washington.

Actually everyone should care. Taiwan Semiconductor makes the vast majority of the world’s semiconductors and damn near all of the advanced microchips that are used by to operate our cars, planes, iPads, laptops, phones, etc. when I learned about this I was furious with the US for putting our national security in one place. And yes, Taiwan Semi makes the chips for our drones, rockets, missiles, etc. thank goodness Biden came up with the chip act to bring some of thes chip manufacturing back to the US. But for now, if China took over Taiwan, China would be holding all the keys to technology and advancement. Even Nvidia, Apple and Broadcom rely on TSMC to manufacture their advanced chips. And that’s why Taiwan is important to us at this time in history.

Btw, for the poster screeching about Pelosi going to Taiwan, I agree that was a bad move. No subtlety at all when the USA cannot afford to go to war with China at this time. However, I hope that poster was screeching about McCarthy’s welcoming visit and hosting of the Taiwan President a couple of weeks ago.

DP. It’s a proxy war between NATO and Russia/China. NATO is supplying Ukraine with money and weapons. And, China and Iran is supplying Russia with weapons Ann’s money. Also, I guess by extension India has picked a side and joined Russia as well. India is buying a lot of Russia’s oil that NATO used to purchase pre-Ukraine war. The countries are picking sides and w hi o knows where it will ultimately lead.

But just so we are clear, Biden ended the actual forever war. It’s hard to call Ukraine a forever war— it just hit the one year mark. And NATO is very worried about the Ukraine because if Putin annexes Russian, next up is Poland or Finland. NATO allies they (and we) have promised to help defend. Reality is stop Putin now or risk having to put their own citizens in harms way. And unlike in the US, the EU teaches history and is well aware what happened when we didn’t stop Hitler in Poland.

Ditto with Vietnam. It was not our fight, but we stupidly entered there too.

Now Pelosi goes to Taiwan and sticks her tongue out at China, with predictable results. Is she senile, or just stupidly arrogant, or did she have a long game playing that we should be aware of? Huh?

We're bankrupting our country with stupid wars. If something starts with China, we need to send Nancy Pelosi's grandchildren in with the first group of boots on the ground, front lines.

Ditto with Ukraine.

We should worry about the here and now. Our lifetime. People’s lives are being destroyed, people dying violent deaths with no,end in site. It’s time to negotiate. Putin is not Hitler.

So? Learn to make them and do not depend on others. Just because you want something is no reason to grab it.

Your argument lacks specifics, unsurprisingly.

I am not sure you follow. China would be the country grabbing them. They are strategically important and major US companies funded and pumped Taiwan Semi. What is troubling is that every president before Biden talked about that security risk of Taiwan Semi having such a major stake in US national security, but did nothing to address it. Biden is trying to address it now by pumping billions of US dollars to bring some of those manufactures to the states. Global Foundries, TSMC, Intel and TXN are all building new facilities in Arizona and Ohio. This will bring some manufacturing jobs back to the US and alleviate some of the angst of Taiwan Semi falling into the hands of China and making the USA China's butt-boy.

About a week or so ago, Macron was on a three day state visit in China. During his return trip, he gave an interview to a business-centric French publication—'Les Echos'— which ended up triggering a diplomatic row on both sides of the Atlantic, but mostly in Europe. Some of the controversial remarks were as follows :

- Does a potential military conflict over the issue of Taiwan concern Europe?

-Europe shouldn't be a follower of the United States

- He also questioned the extra territoriality of the United States dollar .

Needless to say, starting in Europe,—particularly in Germany —, the reactions were swift, with some newspapers calling into question his mental acuity and what not.Personally, to say I was incensed is an understatement.

Look, I'm no flag waving, America can do no wrong zealot. I'm an American citizen who wasn't actually born in this country . I wish I could say I'm surprised by the predictable, yet , hypocritical attitude of the French. Since the end of world War 2 , France has always had an inexplicable mixture of envy, jealousy, and weird resentment towards the U.S. Emmanuel Macron's latest statements should be taken as a 'the cat's out the bag'moment by U.S foreign policy makers who should act accordingly moving forward.

I don’t understand why you would expect France to follow the US. As an Australian, I understand that our best national interests are served by a close relationship with the US. However, I’m not naive enough to expect our national interests to always coincide and have grave misgivings over how willingly Australia followed the US into Iraq and was happy to present false intelligence to an ally.

Should have said how willingly the US presented false intelligence.
