Emmanuel Macron and the duplicity of the French

Another factor is, that while they will never put it in writing, they know we blew up Nordstream. Add all the spying on friendly nations and that's going to give pause now and for generations to come.

Actually everyone should care. Taiwan Semiconductor makes the vast majority of the world’s semiconductors and damn near all of the advanced microchips that are used by to operate our cars, planes, iPads, laptops, phones, etc. when I learned about this I was furious with the US for putting our national security in one place. And yes, Taiwan Semi makes the chips for our drones, rockets, missiles, etc. thank goodness Biden came up with the chip act to bring some of thes chip manufacturing back to the US. But for now, if China took over Taiwan, China would be holding all the keys to technology and advancement. Even Nvidia, Apple and Broadcom rely on TSMC to manufacture their advanced chips. And that’s why Taiwan is important to us at this time in history.

Btw, for the poster screeching about Pelosi going to Taiwan, I agree that was a bad move. No subtlety at all when the USA cannot afford to go to war with China at this time. However, I hope that poster was screeching about McCarthy’s welcoming visit and hosting of the Taiwan President a couple of weeks ago.

I don't understand how this isn't considered more of an emergency crisis. More important to build manufacturing here than spending money supporting Ukraine. Priority should be on building semiconductor and microchip factories in the US.

No, Biden bragged about how he would do it before he did it.

Which war is that? This is the first year in my 20 year olds life we haven’t been at war.

DP. It’s a proxy war between NATO and Russia/China. NATO is supplying Ukraine with money and weapons. And, China and Iran is supplying Russia with weapons Ann’s money. Also, I guess by extension India has picked a side and joined Russia as well. India is buying a lot of Russia’s oil that NATO used to purchase pre-Ukraine war. The countries are picking sides and w hi o knows where it will ultimately lead.

But just so we are clear, Biden ended the actual forever war. It’s hard to call Ukraine a forever war— it just hit the one year mark. And NATO is very worried about the Ukraine because if Putin annexes Russian, next up is Poland or Finland. NATO allies they (and we) have promised to help defend. Reality is stop Putin now or risk having to put their own citizens in harms way. And unlike in the US, the EU teaches history and is well aware what happened when we didn’t stop Hitler in Poland.

We should worry about the here and now. Our lifetime. People’s lives are being destroyed, people dying violent deaths with no,end in site. It’s time to negotiate. Putin is not Hitler.

American lives are not being destroyed. And I’m only aware of a couple American deaths. And Afghanistan ended last Year, so Yes, in our lifetime, unless 6 month olds are on DCUM.

We aren’t at War. Do you think Ukraine will quit fighting because we tell them too? If so we are delusional. Thy will fight to the end. We can help. Or not. But the last time we chose not in this area of the world millions of American died. My son is of draft age, so my vote is help. Because of Putin heads into Poland, we are all in.

The fact you haven’t been paying attention, doesn’t mean everyone else is just jerking off. Please read. Gift link from NYT. 5 minute read. Note that the expansions are running into problems because of concerns over culture clashes (aKA, educated Asian workers do not want to work in Kari Lake lane) and the fact that US workers have insufficient work ethic and STEM knowledge.

"If Russia invades, that means tanks or troops crossing the border of Ukraine again, there will no longer be a Nord Stream 2," Biden said. "We will bring an end to it."

Asked how the U.S. would ensure that, Biden did not offer specifics: "I promise you: We will be able to do it." It's a point Biden administration officials have stressed in recent weeks.

This is a case where the video says more than the quotes:

He has yet to articulate a coherent solution. And no, the party holding the Senate and White House isn’t going to give him a rescission halfway through the fiscal year and MTG’s dream list.

France should be concerned because there is a good chance we will default on our debt this year and take France down with us. Looking at my IRA and 529s, I’d feel better if world currency wasn’t tied to the dollar. I think most American don’t understand just how bad a default will be. But they will when SSA and the VA can’t send out checks.

McConnell is not going to allow a default this to happen if he has to smack McCarthy up one side and down the other. Abortion is already killing the GOP and McCarthy allowing a default will bury the GOP in 2024.

I’d like to think that is true. That Biden and McConnell can prevent a default. And then I watched the dozen votes it took to get him elected majority leader. Like Pelosi. Hate Pelosi, she controlled the Democrats. When it mattered, even the squad hopped to and voted against their progressive promises. McCarthy is promising a revision package, enormous cuts in all heath, education and welfare programs (Hi Medicare recipients), another sequester. And they want more. And MTG and Bobbert and Gaetz and Gohmert really are dumb enough to hold out. That’s your 4 votes.

I don’t see how this happens unless a handful of Rs cross the aisle. And that assumes McCarthy let’s it come to a vote. It’s a mess. I’m sure 90% of the R House is sane. But the 10% of pure crazy is enough to cause a big problem.

And, of course, another October 1 shutdown. I’m actually looking at going to my parents house the mountains that week and paying them a nominal amount, because you get out of being an “essential worker” in my agency if you have pre-paid vacation and pre-approved leave. Work and not be paid on time or vacation and not be paid on time? Tough call.

I’m over these partial shutdowns. Shut absolutely everything Federal down. It would last less than 24 hours and never happen again.

This thread is now three pages long and, somehow, none of you have been able to coherently explain why Macron seem to be ok with America's involvement in Ukraine while claiming Taiwan is not Europe's business .

If Russia defeats Ukraine, they will next try to expand into Poland. Poland is a NATO member, so American and French soldiers will have a responsibility to put boots on the ground.

Taiwan is not a NATO nation. We have much more flexibility in how we respond to Chinese aggression.

That’s the difference.

Where do people get the idea if Russia wins in Ukraine, they will then invade Poland/Baltics/Finland? Surely there must be a source for all these claims somewhere right?

Because Putin loves to talk about the mistake of the USSR dissolving and the lost Russian Empire. Here's a member of the Duma talking about not recognizing their sovereignty
