Any particular interest for a major? We have an average kid by this area's standards - went test-optional - 3.35 GPA, Private school (not Big 3). Has an interest in STEM/Engineering. We found schools that are smaller and he was accepted at many of them (Quinnipiac, UMBC etc). I would also recommend reviewing EC's, volunteering, etc and other ways to show what your child's interests are. The College Essay guy has a lot of great worksheets to tease out your child's "values" - it helped define what he wanted to make sure shined in his applications.

This will be my kid! I see lots of familiar names. If you're open to the Philadelphia area, toss in St. Joe's, Ursinus, Immaculata, West Chester, many more.

That will include people who took non-honors classes and few to no APs.

Not anymore. Rejected from Big 3 with stats in 75% range for Boulder. Not the only one.

CS? If so, that is why.

IMO, some of those schools aren't worth it. Just go to community college and transfer to a better school.

And I say this as someone who didn't go to a highly rated school myself, but I think it makes way more sense, including financially, to go the cc route and aim for a better college.

Our average child got into UNH engineering - unfortunately, the merit aid was minimal. Also accepted at Quinnipiac with generous merit aid. There are definitely pathways for average kids - they might be schools that aren't on DCUM's list. He didn't apply to Widener, York of PA and West Chester after visiting the campuses - he just didn't feel like they were places he wanted to study. No decision yet - but have faith that there is a school out there.

Especially from N. VA much harder to get into because they only take a certain percentage from N. Va because they need to balance out the rest of the state. Same dot all VA States

My Big3 kid was also rejected from Boulder. NOT CS. 33 ACT and 3.2 GPA.

DP. The 25th percentile at JMU is a 3.62. Very, very few kids will get in with a 3.3.
