If you’re talking about the general pop then this is true for almost everywhere outside of Harvard/Yale and big state football schools.

nope the average joe on the street will know all of these except Williams and Amherst - not that it really matters, but most people think a school like Wesleyan- which has arguably better name recognition that Williams - is on par with Amherst and Williams - clearly not the general opinion from the erudite masses on dcum

What is interesting to me about this is that it basically argues a case for if one isn’t going to HYPS, then go to the state uni (assuming it’s a top 50 in your state) or any uni in the 30-50 range where it is probably a lot easier to graduate with a high GPA than say Wash U.

That’s the point isn’t it. Only several are really elite. The rest are good but not that meaningfully distinguishable from number 50+ ranked college.
