| Cal has an amazing reputation on the West Coast and in East Asia. For some reason, it gets lumped in with Michigan or Michigan and UVA a lot here (probably because they are great public schools). In California, the discussion starts with Stanford and Cal. |

Even for CS and most eng fields, it would be all 3 (Stanford, Cal, and CalTech...my years at Stanford probably affect the ordering there). In general though, it would be the 2. CalTech and UCLA are great too and undervalued here. The same could be said about Pomona and CMC in terms of SLACs. |

| No, none of it matters OP. It only matter to the parents of people who went there, who don't want to admit their offspring's boss went to State U. it matters to them, and the employees of USNWR. |
