Do you think Annandale will ever take off?

Here we go again. The schools….blah, blah, blah. If you have firsthand experience please share. If not, please sit this out.

Signed a resident of Annandale whose kids attend the public schools, inside the beltway.

Don't get defensive, but the schools in Annandale suck.

Average SAT score for Annandale HS was 1107 in 2021, perhaps that "sucks" compared to richy rich school in Mclean but by national standards that's pretty good and better than the suburban new england school where I grew up along with the suburban NJ school where my DH grew up.

Q: Is MS 13 is still dumping bodies in Annandale and Springfield?

(not an actual question from the SAT test)

no one said they aren’t in MoCo. Montgomery has desirable places like bethesda and potomac and less desirable places like tacoma park and silver spring, similar to fairfax.

Not my experience. It’s just the line everyone on this board seems to use. Who decides whether a school
is good or not, test score? Hmm, ok. No school is perfect and never will be.

DP here. The actual schools may be fine, but I do think perception of schools is a real issue when it comes to real estate taking off.

100%. We used to live in Annandale. Loved it. But left for Fairfax once kids got to school age (our family went to Annandale HS. Kids had a terrible time with lots of violence issues). It was absolutely the best choice for us, despite Annandale being an easy commute for DH. Annandale is also not quite as family friendly as I've seen in other areas.

And after seeing the videos from the fights at Annandale last week, I'd never ever move back.

This is what scares me about Annandale HS - https://schoolprofiles.fcps.edu/schlprfl/f?p=108:2:::NO:0_CURRENT_SCHOOL_ID,P0_EDSL:140,0

Compare that to the stats for other well-regarded schools - particularly the weapons offenses, disorderly conduct, and offenses against students and other persons. Safety is a huge issue for me and I won't put the kids in a school that I don't believe to be safe.

Yeah my parents live in Annandale and love it. But we all went to catholic school instead of gambling on the local public schools. Even back then there was a lot of talk about gang violence.

when you have a school that’s averaging 34 drug offenses, 54 behavioral offenses, 38 physical altercations, and 7 weapons offenses, that’s no longer subjective. That’s objectively dangerous and unappealing.

not to mention 2/3 of the students are on free or reduced meals, and 3/10 are non english proficient.

No it's had its chance a few times in the last few decades and it never happened.

Lots of older neighborhoods with mature trees but man, the business district is a bit of wasteland. I mean, it's gotta be the most affordable area in Virginia inside the beltway, right? Maybe that and the Falls Church part of Fairfax County?

Falls Church north of 29 inside the Beltway (city or county) will be expensive. Falls Church south of 29 will be less expensive, but not super affordable when it comes to single-family houses.

Most affordable parts of Virginia insider the Beltway will be south of 29 - North Springfield, Annandale, and part of Alexandria (Fairfax County)

Anonymous wrote:Annandale has gone downhill fast, alongside neighboring Falls Church and Springfield. It’s experienced it’s own white flight, where hispanics and AAs from PG and DC moved down, effectively killing the white population, as evident by their schools. It’s going to continue going downhill, with Fairfax city, Burke and it’s surrounding areas following suit. I would only recommend NW fairfax towards the river to anyone moving to fairfax county, ie. Mclean, Great Falls.

Towards the river? LOL. Langley always gonna Langley, even when it's subtle.

which school are you referring to? Is this Annandale HS? If so, there are also two other high schools, Justice and Falls Church. and all this conversation is just about one high school. What about the elementary schools and middle schools? I just think it’s unbelievable that people continue to bash something that they have no personal experience with.
