| I've been waiting for Annandale to catch on for 15 years now. Great location, inside the beltway, convenient to 495/66/50/236. Lots of older neighborhoods with mature trees but man, the business district is a bit of wasteland. I mean, it's gotta be the most affordable area in Virginia inside the beltway, right? Maybe that and the Falls Church part of Fairfax County? |
| The schools are the issue there. |
| Annandale outside of the beltway is zoned for Woodson which isn’t too bad. |
| For many Annandale neighborhoods, the "downtown" draw is closer to Mosaic. There are so many options there. But don't discount central Annandale. There are fabulous restaurants. It's a wonderful area and really close to major highways. |
| If it does, then it would really be saying something about nova. |
| Annandale has gone downhill fast, alongside neighboring Falls Church and Springfield. It’s experienced it’s own white flight, where hispanics and AAs from PG and DC moved down, effectively killing the white population, as evident by their schools. It’s going to continue going downhill, with Fairfax city, Burke and it’s surrounding areas following suit. I would only recommend NW fairfax towards the river to anyone moving to fairfax county, ie. Mclean, Great Falls. |
Um, you clearly aren't following the separate NOVA thread. |
I thought Annandale was mostly Asian (specifically Korean)? |
It used to be heavily, heavily Korean but then (I was told) many of them moved out to Centerville and a lot of hispanic immigrants were moving in. But then I heard a lot of the Koreans were moving back - still a ton of Korean businesses in Annandale but unclear whether the owners/employees live in the area or commute in. Source: been getting my hair cut by the same Korean woman in Annandale for 20 years |
Here we go again. The schools….blah, blah, blah. If you have firsthand experience please share. If not, please sit this out. Signed a resident of Annandale whose kids attend the public schools, inside the beltway. |
Lol, PP is wrong on multiple levels, but they keep posting the same racist nonsense about numerous NoVa neighborhoods. They’re just trolling. Annandale is undervalued and will change (saying this as someone who has profited nicely more than once by buying in undervalued neighborhoods). |
As someone who has lived in Annandale and Springfield, I concur. The costs of housing is causing some places to spiral down and it's dragging down the schools. Both places were nicer and safer places to live 10-20 years ago. Parts of Alexandria, Lakeridge, Herndon are getting less desirable. |
Don't get defensive, but the schools in Annandale suck. |
Oh. So that's why everything is selling $75K+ over asking right now and going under contract within days to a week? |
Average SAT score for Annandale HS was 1107 in 2021, perhaps that "sucks" compared to richy rich school in Mclean but by national standards that's pretty good and better than the suburban new england school where I grew up along with the suburban NJ school where my DH grew up. |
