Florida Republican's Bill Would Ban Young Girls From Discussing Their Periods In School

They have to wait for Fox to give them their talking points.

Does it matter? It’ll be some version of that or “it’s only one lawmaker, it doesn’t represent how Republicans feel.”

It’s egregious. Girls normalizing talking about their periods is deeply important. I only have boys and when the eldest was a little embarrassed by his then fifth grade classmates talking about their periods, I told him how important it is that he be aware that’s something that his female classmates are having to deal with and manage and live with. He should be aware of it (and can be supportive of it later when he understands it’s better).

Outlawing talk about periods is shoving women back into the dark ages.

The GOP is fascist now and supports (or will support) all their bonkers ideas and plans.

Aww... nope. We have been fascist for a long time now, according to DCUM.
We just need to invent more laws to prove it. Buckle up!

This is the real goal. Maybe not the Dark Ages, but the idea of banning the female from public life. And then by extension, making all things female bad, dirty, and not fit for public consumption. It's ancient misogyny for the modern day. I saw a guy on Twitter the other day complaining that women were too scantily clad at the gym. All of this is of a piece to shame women back to where they "belong," under the control of, or as property of, a male.

At this point, they are unable to attack some rights directly (obviously not abortion, and birth control is next) so they are doing an end run. I tend to think it won't be successful, but we're already accepting an awful lot societally so it's hard to say what will be too much.

Pretty soon there will be special rooms for females while on period. These people are truly crazy.

Shouldn't they be trying to solve insurance problems in their state? Girls talking about their periods is a huge problem in Florida apparently.

So the 1st Amendment is dead in the US.

Right, Republicans?

This bill is about the sex education portion. This guy wants it to start in 6th grade. I think it should start in fifth.

How typically disingenuous. You don't mention the follow up within the article:

Gantt asked a follow-up question later in the session, clarifying if teachers will be penalized if their students come to them with issues or questions about their periods. McClain responded that “would not be the intent of the bill,” and he was “amenable” to amendments that would ensure these conversations could take place.

So what? It is just a lie by you and him. He admits it would indeed be against the law.

And maybe the police would look the other way and maybe they wouldn't.

A professor in Palm Beach was fired today for an English course he had taught more than 10 years because a parent complained.

6th grade is 11-2 years old. Girls are having their period as early as 8 or 9. This shiz should not be reduced at any point. It's just shaming.

Sex education should cover physiological processes. This is just dumb.

I went to school in Florida from 2nd grade through college.

We had the class about periods back then in 5th grade. Sixth grade is too damn late!

It wasn’t an article. It was a video and the man who wrote the bill said yes it would prevent girls from talking about menstruation in school.
