So the solution is to be unkind and nasty to OP? Please. |
Breathe in, breathe out. This is DCUM. And FWIW, I think she’s done a great job. Very approachable with my kids, see her at every event, does all the spirit week themes, etc. |
Zero need to be rude. They’re genuinely curious. |
| He works in central office now so I don't think any discussion will hurt his career. No one gets fired (its like a roach motel). |
Disagree - long commute. They should build the school at Amalyn. |
Kids in the eastern side of the Ashburton zone are closer to K-P than Ashburton. https://gis.mcpsmd.org/ServiceAreaMaps/AshburtonES.pdf |
Maybe on the map, but not by actual travel pattern. |
+1 I was initially nervous about the transition, but she's been great from what I've seen. Probably helps that she was the asst. principal for the last year (or two?) and already knew the school/community. I agree that she's very accessible, engaged, at all of the PTA/school events, and also seems to know so many of the kids by name. The schools just got 5-stars on the MSDE ratings released last week (FWIW). Not seeing/feeling any differences form the year before. Like her predecessors, she is continuing to make lemonade out of the lemons that MCPS has burdened the school w/ (when it comes to enrollment). Fingers crossed that she gets the permanent appointment. |
| I've heard a lot of bad things. The principal is inexperienced for a school that large. Teachers are not happy. |
| How is the school this year? Will it get rezoned to Woodward do you think? |
No, it's too close to WJ. |

Ashburton was on the news (NBC4) recently. They are down a Speech pathologist and a parent was saying they haven't been receiving services.
It's a big school with some strong teachers that have been there for awhile. The school is over it's numbers and after care can be hard to get into at the school (though there are alternatives with nearby programs). |
I saw that story - one of the neighbors also posted about it on the listserv. Not an Ashburton-specific problem, MCPS in general has a shortage of SPs but how ridiculous is it that young ES students are expected to access speech therapy online?! |
| Anyone has to be better than Greg who ushered in a lot of far left ideology. |
He was just following the vibe from central office so he could be identified for promotion. |
