NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. See above. We spent a small fortune and within a year replaced it. No to Macy’s. Scammy on mattresses. PSA over. |
Hmm. Not our experience at all. We did our own testing/feeling etc, compared prices across stores and had a low key sales person. |
| I bought a spring mattress online. Never.again!! If you buy an expensive mattress, go in to the store and try it out. If I were to buy online, I'd buy a cheap ikea morgedal medium firm. (not firm). |

OP here. Thanks for all the recommendations! Interesting about Tuft & Needle - we rented an AirBnb that had T&N beds, and many of the reviews about the place were positive specifically because of the T&N beds - so we were excited to try them. We have never slept on such uncomfortable beds in. It could be because we prefer firm to very firm beds not sure.
After your recommendations, much research, and a couple of YT videos we ended up with the Novaform from Costco! Thank you to the PP who recommended it. Got a great price too

Sleepare in Tysons allows you to try out the online mattresses. We thought we wanted a Nectar bed, but ended up with a Winkbed (which I didn't even know existed). It was really helpful to have the chance to lie on them without having them shipped to your house. We had a Purple mattress and I hated it. We went through several mattresses before going with Winkbed.
Check out Sleepare if you're old-school people and too nervous to commit to a mattress you haven't tried! https://www.sleepare.com/mattress-stores/tysons-va/ |

Just found this thread as we’ve been researching mattresses and have recently made a big mistake. We wanted a firm-ish bed and really liked the Sleepy’s brand hybrid. Tried it at Mattress Firm and it felt great in the store. We’ve had it set up at home for four days and it is like a big, sloppy, mushy marshmallow - totally different than the one we tried in store. I am so pi$$ed off because now we have to keep it for 30 days before we can start the return process.
Are traditional mattresses a thing of the past? I’m very reluctant to try another hybrid because they seem to be all the same, regardless of brand. We don’t want to sink into our mattress, we want to lie on top of it and feel supported. I feel very misled by Mattress Firm, considering the floor model was nice and firm and the one we got is anything but. |
Is there a Costco where you can try these out, or do you just have to take your chances and order online? |
Get the saatva luxury firm. So incredible. Wouldn’t want to buy for a guest room though because I don’t want guests staying forever! |
Try Happsy! It’s a hybrid mattress. I’ve had one for five years, it’s wonderful. I’d say it’s medium-firm. |
| Does anyone still sell mattresses with no springs? Hopelessly old fashioned, I know, but that’s what I really want. |
| Ugh autocorrect! Mattresses WITH BOX SPRINGS |
Looks, nice but I'm not willing to pay that much money for a mattress. |
| I bought the Saatva Luxury Firm and I'm not a fan. Wouldn't buy again. It started sagging in the middle almost immediately. |
This is what I want to know too. I have a wonderfully comfortable traditional mattress w/box spring in the guest room which I would love to replicate, but it seems like the hybrids are all that are available now. |
| We have a hybrid Brooklyn and love it. Their customer service was great, too, when we got one we didn’t like. |
