This. I never open the door.
|
| I never open the door. Ever. |
|
I open the door myself. All our doors have double paned glass so I can see who it is anyway. We have an alarm system if there is an issue but we have never had one in over 20 years.
The main problem in our area is teens breaking into unlocked cars at night and stealing cash/ phones/ whatever is there. There do seem to be increasing numbers of children and youth approached on street so I am vigilant about teaching my children to be careful. So far no armed break ins or car jackings in our area but they seem to be on the rise in DMV … I try to be careful but not paranoid. |
| I will open the door with the storm door closed. We have a 110-pound Doberman with a scary bark. Doggy is my in-house security guard. |
| It just depends on the situation. I'll open the door if it's a little old lady during the day. But if it's two dudes at night, I'll at least have my Glock behind my leg. |
| I do not open the door to strangers, no matter who is home. I had a scary experience years ago and vowed never to open the front door unless I knew who it was. Cameras have made that easier, but to me...just like I don't answer a phone call from a number I don't know, I don't answer the door to a person I don't know. And let's face it, it's most likely not Publisher's Clearing House with balloons and a huge check. |
So you WANT to buy a magazine subscription or decide to accept Jesus as your savior? |
| I’m single (so no DH to act as my protector- weird). If I’m expecting someone, of course I answer the front door. Depending on what I’m doing determines whether I answer an unexpected knock. But I’ve got storm doors, do I don’t open that. |
| The storm door is always locked, so I open the front door. |
| I have a ring doorbell and check who is there. My adult kids and their spouses have keys if I don’t hear the door. |
| We had friends killed by someone that forced their way in. Very cautious. |
I get plenty of local political candidates and I learn a lot from talking to them. |
Thank you. I got a great chuckle on this video. That was excellent! |
Not true. We often get packages that need signing. Just last week DH had something delivered that he mentioned to me and i immediately forgot about. Luckily I opened the door for the delivery person and signed for it- DH wasn’t home. Generally, I’ll see who it is then decide on opening the door- clearly a delivery person (UPS truck, etc), neighbor or kid then I’ll open the door; someone who looks like a solicitor, then no. I had an interesting experience a few weeks ago when I did open for a solicitor. I’m white and the solicitor started accusing me of being fearful of him (black male). He was saying things like “ I can tell I’m making you uncomfortable and it’s probably bc I’m a black male- look I’m stepping back..” I was mostly stunned and thinking “what the heck is he trying to sell.” He left without selling anything and saying he was leaving because i clearly didn’t want him there. Umm-yeah, no one likes solicitors knocking on their doors. |
OK, since you want to be picky, nobody you didn’t invite comes to your door for your benefit. And yes, you implicitly invite delivery drivers. But I can’t remember the last time I had to sign for anything. Your solicitor example is proof of concept. At your door for his business. Completely narcissistic. Projecting his own insecurities onto you. |
