Tout de Sweet for fancier, Wegmans otherwise. I get Tout de Sweet for myself, Wegmans for my kids (but I love it too).

The last Wegman's cake I had was not good. It was super dry and crumbly - Red Velvet

Oh no! What was gross about it? They look pretty...

Not PP but my personal experience with Milk Bar is everything is so sweet it'd inedible. If you look up her recipes she uses a lot of corn syrups and I think that's why. It's like eating Caro with a spoon.

I'm the PP and yes, everything is so cloyingly sweet it's disgusting. Plus I found the cake to be overly dense and dry and the icing to be gritty, just like a cheap supermarket cake.

I agree that Wegman's is disappointing. If you want standard grocery store cake, I do think that Costco actually is the best. The vanilla cheesecake mousse filling is actually legitimately good, and I've considered buying a cake just to get that, and then scraping it out to put into a from scratch cake. I did read a story of someone who bought unfrosted costco vanilla rounds with the cheesecake filling and then frosted it with expensive frosting and decorations for her wedding. I bet no one knew that it wasn't an expensive bakery cake.

I already posted my list of fancy bakery cakes. I find most kids don't really like the fancy bakery cakes, as they are too rich, too dense a crumb, etc. (Mine grew up on from scratch baking and still don't really like fancy cakes that much.) Most kids prefer costco cake or ice cream cake.

We love their vanilla cake with whipped cream frosting, not dry at all.

Shopper’s Food Warehouse. There’s one on Rt. 1 in the Alexandria part of Fairfax Co.

They used to have more stores, but some were converted to Amazon Fresh stores. Big mistake.

Sorry OP didn't read your comments. Maybe whole foods? Think you will be hard pressed to find any "healthy" cakes.

What qualifies as a "somewhat healthy cake"? It's CAKE.
I like Les Delices in Rockville. Not overly sweet. But I still don't consider it healthy.

Somewhat healthy? 😳😳

My vote is for Costco

Also I think it's important whether the cake is for kids or adults.
Kids will truly turn their noses up at fancy cakes so just do something from the grocery/costco so you don't cry when it goes in the trash.

Cake room makes some good cakes. Not sure what type of cake is a healthy cake though.
