The last Wegman's cake I had was not good. It was super dry and crumbly - Red Velvet
I agree that Wegman's is disappointing. If you want standard grocery store cake, I do think that Costco actually is the best. The vanilla cheesecake mousse filling is actually legitimately good, and I've considered buying a cake just to get that, and then scraping it out to put into a from scratch cake. I did read a story of someone who bought unfrosted costco vanilla rounds with the cheesecake filling and then frosted it with expensive frosting and decorations for her wedding. I bet no one knew that it wasn't an expensive bakery cake. I already posted my list of fancy bakery cakes. I find most kids don't really like the fancy bakery cakes, as they are too rich, too dense a crumb, etc. (Mine grew up on from scratch baking and still don't really like fancy cakes that much.) Most kids prefer costco cake or ice cream cake.
