Muggers stealing Canada Goose Jackets (sometimes at gunpoint)

How much student loans does the victim have? 30 jackets? I would be furious if my kid owned and wore a $1,000 item of clothing. My family's HHI is about 160 stupid forking jackets.

Your kid very likely carries around a $1,000 computer in the palm of his hand. Seems like an arbitrary thing to protest the jacket?

Correct. It's funny how the mob focuses on just the thing they don't have, and not the thing they all have.

When I can pay my bills, call my mom, and complete some of my work with my puffy jacket, then maybe it will be worth $1000.

+1 and maybe when the jacket is used year-round 15 hours a day, provides music, wifi hotspot for my laptop worth a jacket, and a camera.

This thread seems like victim blaming but what the heck do I know.

The 3 year old iPhone 11 is not worth $1k.

The irony is that the DC folk wear fakes.

In Europe, people wear a lot of these brands and I guess don’t have to worry about muggings?

Well, you can't walk 3 blocks in DC without seeing a North Face jacket, so I think you're safe to pick up one of those.

As for Canada Goose, I guess it's the winter version of getting held up at gunpoint for your fancy sneakers

We have strong police systems in Europe and the only "defund police" crazies never touch power.

Also, your attitude brings to mind the old saying that even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Yes, a literal fraction. But at $350+, still an amount of money.

My teen left his black NF in a food court at college and it was gone when he went back to get it.
The prior year, left on the back of his chair in class in a huge public high school, on a Friday morning. Did not realize until end of day, but did not want to miss the bus. Monday morning, it was still there, hanging on a hook in the back of the classroom. Let's blame the robbers and those who steal instead of the victims.

Oh please. Europe has less guns, so it is safer, but there's still plenty of muggings and other street crime

To everybody on this thread making assumptions about cost of the dumb jackets.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT COST.

It is a fashion thing. A few years ago people were being killed for their Helly Hansen jackets in DC. Before that it was North Face. Now it is Canadian Goose. Tomorrow it might be Karbon. It does not matter. It is trendy.

By the way now, EVERYBODY is wearing Helly Hansen skiing today. Making even more tragic the kids shot and killed just a few years ago for wearing it.

Didn't you notice how gun sales skyrocketed in the US in 2020?

Regarding muggings, that's true. No place is perfect.

Past Christmas I got my DS a NF jacket for $280. He has not worn it because he has other jackets. I think of NF as gear. If it gets arctic cold, he can be warm. It does worry me that he can be a target though.

I think we can dole out a little bit of blame to those who *repeatedly* leave their $350 jackets (and my north face cost a lot less than that) lying around unattended.
