Any full scholarships?

And the answer is usually a few per school with notable exceptions like Alabama

I know someone who did that. They transferred to William and Mary after one year

It sounds like they ended up paying 30k less for their W&M degree

They must not have fit in at Alabama.

W&L is something like top 10% of incoming class, so it is clearly one of the most extensive and generous programs.

UVA and UNC offer full ride scholarships, but you need to be nominated by your school.

Duke, University of Southern CA (USC), Vanderbilt and Washington and Lee all offer a full ride scholarships that are merit based, not need based.

And UA will also give a nearly full tuition scholarship (automatically) for lesser SAT scores. Pretty good deals to be honest.

Yes, approximately 40-42 Johnson Scholars named per year at W&L. It's 10% of the incoming class.

My DC was an alternate. They offer above the desired 40-42 to account for yield. The kids my DCs year that she got to know during the Johnson Weekend who were offered a Johnson, but did not accept went to Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Princeton, & Brown. Super impressive kids from around the world! They ended up offering my DC a 90% full ride as alternate with the option to wait until the end of May for a possible bump. She took a very generous offer at another school instead.

It's actually 7% of a class at most (as cited by W&L).

i know many kids who went to Alabama on full tuition or full ride scholarships. every single one of them used that opportunity to get where they wanted to go. many to medical school and law school, many to top investment banks, many to FAANG companies.

all are doing great and none have student debt.

University of Richmond, NC State, UNC Chapel Hill are some of the ones that may not have been mentioned yet.

We were shocked when our DS got an unexpected full ride at U Chicago. It will allow for the funds we saved to go to grad school or another child. Definitely worth looking into if your child has high stats.

Congrats! Did you DS apply ED, EA or RD? Also, did he attend private or public school? I ask because I have heard anecdotally that UChicago gives most merit money in the RD round and not to students at some of the private schools where many kids already apply there, and I'm wondering if this is true.
