| The longer you wait, the fewer the seats, and the more desperate everyone becomes. The result? In RD there are fewer seats and tons more applications. If you really want a school, ED. If you apply RD, you’re kidding no one - you are playing the field. Good luck with that. |
Yes, will likely be very difficult to get accepted RD, unless she's at the top of her class with that record. But there are lots of great schools out there that could be a good fit for her, so don't ED2 unless she really wants W&M. |
True, my DS didn't get in to ONE of his RD picks so went with EA. His friends did not get into their RD picks either |
Same here. DD got in RD with 3.9 UW, 1510, lots of longtime EC's with HS Leaderships and was able to tigh wildly different school EC's together in a non-school EC project. Good friend with lower stats 3.8UW, TO, 4 AP's got in RD too. Both though showed thorough interest, attending lots of online info sessions in addition to the in person campus visit. |
Good that they got in, but those stats (besides the 1510 SAT) are below the average for W&M so the odds were likely against them and no one should think they will have similar success unless URM, first generation, etc. Also, how long ago was this? |
NP. Did you see those GPAs were unweighted? I’m sure that 3.9 is much higher with AP classes added in. |
Thank you, you are correct. I just never post a weighted gpa because it varies so wildly. Both had done APs in all 5 core classes, just not all in the same year (9, 10,11) and some were special classes like analytical chem, post AP kind of. But most just want to those hard numbers. Anyways, I am wishing OP's DD success is decides to go for ed2 or RD. I am positive she will be happy, no matter where she ends up.

Giving only UW GPA isn't helpful either as it says nothing about class rigor, etc. Plus, the GPA averages provided by W&M are weighted. |
I don't want to sound discouraging, but I don't think this would stand out among the other RD applicants. Her ECs and recommendations would have to be stellar and eye-catching, |
| OP: is 4 Advanced classes highest rigor in the class? Are they spread across 4 different core academic subjects? With TO, your kid needs the “greatest rigor” box if they are unhooked. |

I don't know but DD is in the same boat. She has an acceptance in hand to a safety she really likes with a big merit award and opportunity for that to be increased. She's liked W&M too but just isn't sure she'd pick it over the safety at a substantially lower price. And I'm not going to push her to make that choice. If W&M was priced more like VT I might be more encouraging for ED2.
According to Naviance she's in the lower end of accepted GPAs but high on test scores, had a great interview, visited twice, has strong and unusual ECs that are also strongly aligned with planned major. I think she's a likely admit if she'd ED but odds against in RD. But she'll be happy either way and frankly I'll be happy with the price of the current favorite. |
| My son got in RD last year. NOVA public, 4.2gpa, 1460 SAT, 4 AP’s, very strong EC. Don’t know if it truly makes a difference but did in person tour and some zoom sessions. |
| What’s ED and RD? I swear this site needs a guide so all of the acronyms |
ED = Early Decision I or II (binding) RD = Regular Decision (non-binding) TO = Test Optional (no SAT or ACT scores submitted) |
Early decision (binding) and Regular decision Also EA=early action -- you get the decision earlier but aren't committed to go. W&m doesn't have EA |
