Can you get into W&M in-state without ED2

Any guidance on this would be appreciated. DD really likes W&M but is unsure if she wants to ED2 there. She has good grades, would be TO, excellent ECs. We are in-state.

And may I clarify — she doesn’t want to ED2 anywhere, she just wants to cast wide net of applications to schools she is good fit. She has one EA acceptance already.

People certainly get in RD - but has she visited/demonstrated interest? A visit goes a long way at W&M.

Yes, in-person visit completed. Thanks for your input.

I have no idea but would not want anyone to apply binding anywhere unless definite they want to go there if accepted

DC got in RD with average stats for school last year … went elsewhere.

It's surprisingly hard to get into W&M (and a lot of schools these days) RD. My DD is a freshman at W&M and I'm 95% sure she wouldn't have gotten in without ED (4.1 WGPA, 1390 SAT, lots of APs but few ECs).

A close friend of hers with much higher stats did get into W&M RD, but not UVA. This girl is at W&M now and happy, but likely could have gotten into much higher-ranked schools ED.

That said, do not do ED if your kid isn't sure. If your DD would be ok attending the school she's already been accepted to, then I'd suggest she take her chances RD.

Can't assess without knowing more what you mean by "good grades." Almost all As? How many APs? IB diploma program?

DC (class of 2021) had higher stats, full IB, and was waitlisted RD at W&M. I'm 95% sure DC would have gotten in with ED.

3.9 unweighted (school doesn’t use weighted GPA); 4 AP level classes (school doesn’t offer AP classes, but she has taken Advanced level in 4 classes).

In my opinion, that's going to be a tough admit for RD without test scores. But you never know! I really think she should only do ED2 if she'd be very happy to attend. If she's on the fence, don't do it.

I agree 100%. Your DC sounds like a strong student. I'm sure they are doing well wherever they ended up!
