Holton-Arms is 40% black? Really? Huh I did not know that |
PP said the school says it's 40-ish% POC, not 40% Black. For what it's worth, Niche says it's 11% Black. https://www.niche.com/k12/holton-arms-school-bethesda-md/students/ |
I am guessing Edmond burke? |
But only 2 Black girls in the class? I would be surprised. My child’s class has more Black students than that. |

I do wonder what schools have the most diversity.
From top ones I’ve seen: Gonzaga 24% Visi 36% SJC 36% Stone Ridge 37% GDS 40% POC Landon 41% Potomac 42% STA 43% NCS 46% Maret 52% Sidwell 57% I’m pretty surprised at GDS’s low %. I don’t see why every school couldn’t be 50% |
GDS has a lot of religious diversity which should also count especially because many schools used to restrict non Christians. |
So GDS can get away with low # of minority kids because it’s popular with Jewish families? Nice try. |
I work at one of these schools so I’m speaking for mine, but I’m sure it applies to most. The numbers for my school include all POc, mixed, Asian, black, etc so the numbers on paper look great. When you physically see people it looks completely different. I prefer to see the break down. Numbers |
So was your daughter invited and not you? This seems like it could be distressing to children in multi-racial families. |
So you can decide who “counts”? |
Is that what PP said? But, in any event, *you* are the one who decides. You are hereby anointed Official Decider. |
Yes, I think we all know what POC means - non white. So it makes it worse to have that number below 50%. |
According to niche Sidwell is 52% white, so it cannot be 57% POC. https://www.niche.com/k12/sidwell-friends-school-washington-dc/students/ |
Pp, I have a question for you: how do schools get their numbers? We are newly applying and only one school listed race and ethnicity on the Ravenna preliminary application. |
Their family should be included if the child is a minority. However, as a parent through adoption, we are very aware of this kind of situation and would never put our child at a school like this where they are the token. That's not fair to the child to only have one other child similar to her in a school/grade. |
