I have always preferred working out at night-- it helps me sleep better. I can't fathom waking up and working out. |
I switched to running on the treadmill at night. I run for an hour from 730-830 and go to bed at 10. This prevents me from drinking and snacking at night and on the whole I think has improved my sleep. |
I find that exercising anytime before 8pm is doable for me. The best is in the middle of the day but that's not always doable, so it would have to be 4-6pm. But these hours also conflicts with my dinner. But, after 8pm, I'm so energized after exercising, that I can't fall asleep until closer to midnight. My body needs about 2+ hours to relax before it shuts down at night.

I used to do it, and far prefer it to morning exercise! My body is much more alert and warmed up too, so far less soreness (at least for me). The other bonus was that if I exercised late, I didn't make bad food choices or drink wine. Win-win-win. It never really affected my sleep. |
I prefer afternoon/evening exercise. There's nothing wrong with that. But it does make it harder for me to sleep...but I'm a night person. I know others who can workout in the evening and fall asleep just fine.
On the flip side - I do not like exercising in the morning, and when I do, it's more like going through the motions. I never challenge myself in the same way I do when I exercise later in the day or at night. Everyone has their own body rhythm - it's unfortunate when life schedule doesn't allow you to exercise at your preferred time....but it's better than no exercise at all. |
