In normal healthy individuals, what negative effects does fasting have?

There can be losses in muscle mass. Doing resistance exercises can attenuate muscle loss.
I sometimes have a no carb breakfast of an egg with extra egg whites to boost my protein intake with minimal insulin release as an alternative to a longer fast.

+1 I used to think that doing a fasted workout would push me into my fat reserves, but what it actually does is negatively affect muscle mass. So a little something in the morning, something protein and fat rich would be a great option. Something with a complete amino acid profile.

Fasting killed my sex drive! Something about the way it impacted my energy levels and sleep routines. I would be ready to pass out by 8pm and never was in the mood. Surprising since I did lose weight and was overall happier with my appearance.

IF also gave me terrible breath and acid reflux. Once I hit 8 hours, no amounts of antacids or mouth wash could help my breath. My mouth tasted like stomach acid until I ate a carb.

I am now doing Metabolism Makeover. I ear 4 times a day and focus on protein, healthy fats and fiber. It’s super flexible and super sustainable. You can figure it out for free just by following their Instagram or you can lay to do Facebook groups and coaching sessions. I think those come with meal plans and grocery lists too. I’ve never done that - I just read posts and learn from there. I am 12 pounds lighter than I was in 2020. I’ve never been at the same weight for this long. Transformative!

The most prominent negative affect is that you are grumpy and can't participate in breakfasts and brunch. :p

YES! BREAKFAST and brunch rock. I misssssss them on IF. And sometimes I do eat them, but I feel best if I don't.

Wouldn't it be better to just have a yogurt for example? It's not going to make you fat and it gives you some energy.

Can you provide more details? Which supplements do you take? Thanks!

I've been following Dr Stacy Sims recently - she specializes in post-menopause fitness. She says that fasting isn't good for this demographic. I started having a protein shake before workout. I think it's given me a boost.

For women they say if you want to try it - a 14 hour fast is a better way to go, due to some of the issues people above mentioned.
