I've read many positive things regarding fasting. Is there any research that shows fasting speeds up any degeneration of body? |
No, in fact the opposite is true.
The most prominent negative affect is that you are grumpy and can't participate in breakfasts and brunch. :p |

There can be losses in muscle mass. Doing resistance exercises can attenuate muscle loss. I sometimes have a no carb breakfast of an egg with extra egg whites to boost my protein intake with minimal insulin release as an alternative to a longer fast. |
I’ve done 16/8 IF for a year and have lost 30 lbs while gaining muscle. |
It made my IBS worse |
Low blood sugar, fatigue, lightheadedness in some people. |
I found IF to be easy and effective, but it did give me acid reflux, which I'd never had an issue with before, so I had to stop. |
Almost all the research has been done on men so I would tread carefully if you are a woman. |
Loss in muscle mass |

Far more benefits than negative effects in normal healthy individuals. Some folks with certain health issues need not apply. |
It made my GERD worse. |
YES! BREAKFAST and brunch rock. I misssssss them on IF. And sometimes I do eat them, but I feel best if I don't. |
With minimal daily exercise the muscle loss does not occur. Check out huberman podcast on fasting |
It also made my IBS so much worse. And I didn't lose a single pound. I'm so jealous of those who have had success with it, because other than the IBS issues, I found it quite easy to do. |
Fasting destroyed my metabolic system and I have to take prescription supplements now. I guess I fall under the not-nornal healthy individual, but I didn't know it until after I had a metabolic crisis. |
