Of course not. If the bond passes, that's their stamp of "community approval." Behind the scenes, MAYBE some people will start expressing some minimal level of concern that the people are becoming disgruntled and on to them... |
Which is EXACTLY what the school board is counting on. |
No. That idea is floated every.single.time. The SB will never rethink what they are doing. They don't care what the community thinks. Remember, they even shut down community input in meetings for awhile. My no vote won't mean a thing to them. |
It doesn’t matter. These will always pass. People just vote straight D down the ticket and yes to all bonds.
I’m voting no but I know it doesn’t matter one bit |
Where can Arlington place a 4th High School (if not Kenmore or the old hospital complex)... isn't THAT the issue? |
No, the issue is that they CAN place a 4th high school at Kenmore but WON'T. |
4th HS actually was possible at CC, but only if you used the whole campus, which they said was impossible. Now, in a shocking twist (NOT!), they are planning to tear down all the other buildings on the site but also still not building in a way to allow for 4th HS. APS can't plan to save its life. |
Not being sarcastic, I'm genuinely curious. How old are your kids? I'm wondering because any scenario for a 4th school would take time, so are your kids young? The current schools are already huge. I'm wondering what the tipping point is for you that they're too big. |
The County hired transportation consultants that said it won’t work. And the neighbors said no way. So those are the groups you would need to convince. |
Why do the neighbors get to vote? Seriously? And why is traffic so extra super bad around Kenmore? I call BS on the whole thing. |
Do you regularly drive around Kenmore? Carlin Springs is a logjam. The only entrance to the school is off S. 2nd Street and it's a cluster generally. Because it's on the Fairfax line, you need to involve them in making road changes. And Route 50 is governed by VDOT. |
So, you make it happen. Aps doesn’t have a problem messing up the roads. |
Voting no. APS needs to plan for a 4th high school and this career center nonsense is not cutting it. Also, lol to the No to the Bond group on AEM it so dang obvious it's just SR 2.0. |
No, you don't have to "convince" those people. You just do it....like they're doing with missing middle housing upzoning. And you think the one consultant the County hired to look into the transportation issue is the one and only true perspective? Changes need to be made - it's not the most "workable" as-is - but it can be done. There is already an 1100-seat middle school and a 500(?) seat elementary school on the site. So why couldn't a 1600 seat high school "work" from a transportation perspective? |
So you do the work that needs to be done to get it done. So what that it has to involve FxCo and VDOT? APS always said it would "take too long" because of that and they needed additional capacity for schools "now." Well, they just keep squandering away even more time by not even beginning the effort to make it work. |
