I read Zalensky’s NATO application as an acknowledgment that Kyiv is willing to sacrifice the annexed lands to Russia n exchange for NATO membership.

Interesting

But since Ukraine and West are not recognizing the annexations as legal, don’t you think they could challenge those new illegal borders?

NP. Yes, but in any case, Ukraine is going to sacrifice the annexed lands. Zelensky is the president of a democratic country not dictatorship. Ukrainians overwhelming want to fight to liberate the rest of their country, so that's what they will continue to do.

Besides, Ukraine is starting to win this war, and they are also uncovering unspeakable acts of barbarism committed by the Russians in liberated territory. Why in the world would they want to stop now? It makes zero sense.

No, it's the United States winning this war . If it wasn't for us propping up Zelensky and his military, Ukraine would have surrendered months ago.

All the intell, all the command and control is being run by the US. US gives coordinates, ukies fire the HIMARs

If Putin uses his "annexation" as his win and then slows down, Zelensky will quickly wear out his welcome in the west.

The rest of the world stood by and did nothing in 1938 when Hitler annexed Czechoslovakia and this led to Sept. 1939 and Germany invading Poland and 7 years of WWII and millions slaughtered. Russia is doing the same. NATO needs to mobilize and call Putin's bluff. Russia's army is a joke. Putin will not stop.

Yeah yeah, it’s great you can use your old Iraq rants and just find and replace some words.

Why should NATO mobilize? The US is already driving the Russians out of formerly occupied territory with the help of their Ukrainian puppets.

Last year, Ukrainians would never join NATO, they didn't want to. Even just a few months ago they wanted NATO's guns and money but not to join.

Putin is amazing. He has changed the minds of millions of people in Ukraine, Sweden, and Finland, all of whom opposed joining NATO just a short time ago.

Ironic in the worst way. Yes Putin is driving them all into the arms of NATO

Putin is our generation’s Hitler but more cunning. He has China and India deluded that they will be part of his new Asian world order led by him.

Modi is trying to talk out of both sides of his mouth now.

This was nothing more than a reciprocal and counter action to Russia’s annexation. Russia didn’t have territorial authority, but had nuclear weapons. With its annexation, it now has phony “territorial jurisdiction.” The Ukrainian’s have actual legal jurisdiction, but they don’t have nuclear weapons. With its request to join NATO, it now has quasi nuclear weapons. In the end, neither the annexation nor the NATO application mean anything, but they symbolically complete each sides’ claim. Back to diplomatic stalemate. Of course, on the ground, Ukraine is presently cleaning up.

Why would want to end up in a mutual defense pact with a country with an ongoing military invasion?

Russia does represent a threat to entire world as an unstable, amoral nuclear super power.

Only in your eyes. Multiple commentators, including diplomats who served in the region, have stated very clearly that Putin sees NATO encroachment into Georgia and Ukraine as a red line, and will respond. It's not like it hasn't been said or warned about, for years. You may disagree that this is where the line should be, but that is where it is for him. His response was entirely predictable, and it is a fact that his government tried to get a commitment from NATO not to engage with Ukraine by diplomatic means. When he didn't get it by diplomatic means, he proceeded to non-diplomatic means.

Let's not talk about morality, that word sounds funny when said with an American accent.

Russia illegally annexed 15% of his country using farcical election results involving Russian soldiers literally holding guns to Ukrainians’ heads.

Ironically, Putin is driving Ukraine to seek shelter from NATO following his ludicrous allegations of the NATO military defense alliance Representing a war machine that justified his empire lust driven war crimes.

NATO is primarily a weapons purchasing cooperative. It's NOT a defense alliance at all.

I don’t have an American accent but have lived here for many years.

We run in international circles and everyone I know believes that Putin’s NATO rants were a pretext for an illegal land grab carried out with many unnecessary war crimes.

NATO is a military alliance not an attack dog.

Putin's NATO opposition is not news and it has been on record long before any land grabs. It sounds like you don't think anyone is entitled to dislike NATO.
