Can you help me fill in this chart on masks and schools?

Anonymous
Not OP but interested in this question. Sounds like here's what we have so far:

Required
Inspired
DCB
Mundo verde

Optional
Lee
Yu ying
Stokes
Two rivers

Unknown
CMI

My next question would be, in that Required group, what are the metrics (if any) for going mask optional? It would be interesting to know exactly what metrics they are looking at and how low they would need to be in order to drop the mandate.

Masks are optional outdoors. I think the approach makes sense and there are a lot of factors/community members' needs to consider, and I am fine with their decision-making.

How generous of them.

It is early in the day, but, Congrats! You are in the running for dumbest post of the day!!! PP didn't ask if you thought this would be helpful. They simply asked for information. Seems like you had none to offer but still felt the need to chime in. Well played, sir. (And I am certain you are a "sir").

TR is mask optional.

Go have a coffee and relax!

This.

First PP, second PP was actually helpful. And you were insulting and condescending, not just to PP but to all men.

Do please go have a coffee and relax!

LAMB is required if DC goes to medium or high community levels, but optional for low. That doesn't fit into the above rubric.

What's interesting about Stokes is that masks are still required indoors for teachers and staff.

1) Masks required until data shows us they are not needed.

2) Masks optional unless data shows they are needed.

While I understand the appeal of #1, I think it's the wrong approach with Covid at this point. We are at a stage, after two years of masking/virtual, and now with universally available vaccines, where we need to find our baseline with regards to masking. What's the minimum masking necessary to protect people? A mask optional approach allows anyone who feels more vulnerable to mask, and DC has done a good job of ensuring high quality masks are available for this group -- anyone who wants a free KN95 can get one at this point. But for people who do not feel this is necessary, let's let them unmask unless or until cases indicate we need to mask. The risk is not high, based on both transmission rates and hospitalization rates. It's worth taking to give our kids a chance to go to school unmasked. If it's an abject failure, we'll know pretty quickly and schools can always require masks again. But we need to at least try to go without, especially now when the danger is low, to see what is possible.

Uh, we already know it's safe for kids to go maskless. Nearly every school district in the country has abandoned masking. If you do any traveling, you quickly realize how unusual DC is in that people even still debate masking. It's like DC is stuck in 2021.

These schools have policies that are an INTERnational embarrassment.

Do you think they care what you think?

OMG. Someone called out a man for mansplaining and it hurt his feelings. How dare anyone question when a man chimes in without anything to add in order to lecture someone who asked a question. That's his god given right!!!

Thank you all for starting in a new thread the same conversation and discussion you have all been having in every other thread. Clearly the last 10 times you all derailed a thread with your positions on masking were not enough. Thankfully, you can all repost your positions here again.

Yeah, that’s just words though. If they’re not lifting mask mandates when levels are low, when would they exactly? They have the exact same factors as ever other school in the District (and country for that matter). If they’re not saying EXACTLY what criteria they’re using, you have to assume it’s just lip service and punting the decision.

They did state their criteria. They said when DC is in low transmission (and school transmission doesn't exceed x staff/kids overall or in classroom spread). BUT, they then said that they don't trust the data being reported by DC. That is the part that makes it hard to believe the mandate will be lifted anytime in the future. If the decision is based on data that you discount...

With that said, some people seem happy with the decision and most aren't all that bothered, even if they'd rather it be different.

Would be interested to see data on incidence of positive tests/days missed due to COVID for schools with varying approaches.

Gotta keep the help in masks, you know?

They certainly will when they see this very data helpfully compilled by OP.

They will!
