Montgomery Swim Team

My DD is not a fast swimmer and is on Blair's swim team. Most of the kids who swim individual events in meets tend to be the ones who swim year round, but the less fast kids like my DD still swim in meets too - just the exhibition relays. It's a nice group of kids!

Practices are only twice a week for a varsity sport?

Also, they are all fighting club teams for pool time. High schools don’t have pools.

As someone who didn't grow up around here, I'm always a bit surprised by this. Pools at high schools were pretty common where I went to school, we even had swimming for PE class! It was not an affluent area. Now on the flip side we didn't have many public pools, so maybe that's why it was more common for the high schools to have them.

Does Blair swim team have varsity and junior varsity? Are they separated in training schedule? I always thought the varsity team training is combined with RMSC senior/high school training group. Is year-round swimmer only attending their club training, or there's a centralized training schedule at a pool nearby Blair?

They will be opening a new indoor pool in silver spring.

RMSC is completely separate. Year round train at a bunch of different places. I’d the times are the same they have different space and coaches.

Money and space. Running a pool is expensive.

The county recreation department runs and owns the pools. We have far more pools than most surrounding areas but could clearly use more.

By club you mean summer pool clubs or some year around activity?

We mean summer teams (MCSL) AND a year round team (PVS teams like ASA, NCAP, RMSC).

My son does summer, high school and year round swimming which is typical.

The kids who don’t swim year round in Division A are likely not swimming at every meet and their season is cut short a bit because they don’t go to divisionals, metros, or states. They often grab a spot when there are club meet conflicts though. PVS has several conflicting meets so when those kids scratch, others move up that week.

The time has finally come:
montgomerycountymd.gov/DGS-BDC/SS/721701.html

Which HS swim dive teams will use the new facility? B-CC, Blair and those closer to downtown Silver Spring than MLK Rec?

PP, you know DCUM ain't gonna click on no link.

"The Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center is in the Central Business District of Silver Spring as part of a Public-Private Partnership undertaken with the Housing Opportunity Commission and the Lee Development Group. This project includes approximately 120,000 Gross Square Feet of public recreation space within HOC's larger housing project.

The facility will include typical recreation and leisure activities. Pools will be designed for general swimming, low level diving, exercise, aquatic play, high school competitions, training, and teaching. A gymnasium, exercise and weight room spaces, movement and dance studios, multipurpose activity rooms, public use space, and social space with a culinary arts kitchen will also be included. Senior programs will be provided by a coordinated program with Holy Cross Hospital's "Senior Source"."
